Evaluating your own compositions is easy: The program has been designed to tell you whether you have added the right notes to the chord in the four-parts, whether you have put the accidentals in the right places and whether you have made forbidden consecutives or other mistakes while composing your chords.
If you want to evaluate one of your practice harmonies, all you have to do is create two windows, one containing your work and the other with the file created by tonica fugata - it couldn't be easier! Forbidden parallels are automatically displayed in the notation. Chord analysis is carried out in the evaluation window.

tonica fugata 14 now supports transposing instruments, e. g. in the composition, analysis, import and export of scores. You set the transposition in the last column Transposition of the expanded SystemTemplate.
The harmonic analysis in tonica fugata 14 now no longer analyzes the harmonies only relative to the root key, but automatically detects harmonic modulations and deviations into adjacent keys. You can also specify modulations which are then taken into account in the analysis. The distance for harmonic analysis is determined dynamically on request.
So far tonica was restricted to a maximum of four voices. With the enhanced score display, algorithms were also enhanced to allow more than four voices. This way you can now compose an eight-part harmony, a five-part fugue or an eight-part canon.
You can now easily select the playback sound, independent of your sound card. Same as capella 8, tonica supports loading of sound libraries in sf2 format made available (some for free) on the Internet.

Das Programm wurde ursprnglich unter dem Namen tonica als Lern- und Anwendungsprogramm fr die Bereiche Akkordlehre, Tonsatzlehre und Komposition entwickelt. Mit Version 4.0 wurde eine Kompositionsautomatik fr Tonstze integriert. Seither wurde es um weitere musikalische Formen und Stile erweitert. Mit der Komposition von Fugen ab Version 9.0 erfolgte die Umbenennung in tonica fugata. Seit Version 13.0 ist tonica fugata auch fr macOS verfgbar. Gleichzeitig wurde die Notendarstellung und Notenbearbeitung an das Notensatzprogramm capella angepasst und die Kompositionsalgorithmik auf beliebig viele Stimmen erweitert.
Das Programm lst die oben genannten Aufgaben eigenstndig zu den Vorgaben des Benutzers, beispielsweise zu einem eingegebenen Thema. Es bedient sich dabei der Stilimitation: Der Benutzer kann das Ergebnis durch die Wahl eines Harmonisierungsstils bzw. eines Variationsstils beeinflussen. Dabei handelt es sich um einen Personalstil (z. B. Johann Sebastian Bach) oder Gattungsstil (z. B. Jazz). In tonica fugata sind derzeit folgende Harmonisierungsstile vordefiniert:
tonica fugata setzt Verfahren der Algorithmischen Komposition ein. Als Technologie kommen knstliche neuronale Netze zum Einsatz, deren Struktur und Gewichte an konkrete Lernbeispiele (z. B. Chorle von J. S. Bach) angepasst werden.[2]
Anstatt mit fest vorgegebenen Regeln zu arbeiten und damit den Suchraum zu beschrnken, verzichtet tonica fugata bis auf wenige Grundregeln wie beispielsweise dem Verbot der Quintparallelen auf ein festes Regelwerk. Stattdessen lst das Programm die Aufgaben, indem es eine diskrete Zeitreihenanalyse fr die Abfolge der Tne, Harmonien und Motive in den Lernbeispielen durchfhrt und damit die neuronalen Netze trainiert. Aus dem Wissen, das dabei in den neuronalen Netzen gespeichert wird, werden dann Prognosen fr neue Melodien und Themen abgeleitet. Die Anwendung dieses Wissens kann gezielt durch den Zufall gesteuert werden, was dazu fhrt, dass zu einer Eingabe verschiedene Lsungen erzeugt werden.[3]
tonica fugata folgt damit der Arbeitsweise eines Komponisten, der sich im Prinzip an Regeln orientiert, aber in weit grerem Mae seiner musikalischen Intuition folgt und dabei aus seinem Erfahrungsschatz und den Werken der Musiktradition schpft.
Die Fuge ist eine der komplexesten und handwerklich anspruchsvollsten Formen in der Musik, mit der sich viele bedeutende Komponisten auseinandergesetzt haben. Die Kunst besteht darin, aus wenig Grundmaterial (Thema und Kontrapunkt) eine in sich geschlossene Komposition zu erschaffen. Dabei tritt das Thema immer wieder in vernderter Gestalt auf (z. B. als Umkehrung, Augmentation oder in Engfhrungen).
tonica fugata legt einer Fuge ein Formschema zugrunde, das den groben Aufbau der Fuge festlegt. Basierend auf diesem Formschema und dem vorgegebenen Thema erzeugt das Programm das Themenmaterial, aus dem die Fuge schlielich zusammengesetzt wird. tonica fugata bietet verschiedene Formschemata zur Auswahl an, einige basierend auf den Fugen des Wohltemperierten Klaviers von J. S. Bach.[4]
tonica fugata verfolgt den Ansatz des Explorativen Lernens: Der Benutzer wird nicht schrittweise zum fertigen musikalischen Ergebnis geleitet, sondern soll anhand der Analyse eigener bzw. der vom Programm erzeugten Kompositionen selbststndig Erfahrungen sammeln und komponieren lernen. Von Einsteigern und Laien wird daher eine gewisse Sicherheit hinsichtlich der sthetischen Beurteilung der von tonica fugata erzeugten musikalischen Ergebnisse verlangt.
