Cooking from scratch is hard, so is creating an animated resume from thin air. Biteable has templates for every profession, designed by video pros to help you keep your video resume on track and make the best impression.

There is no built-in way to do this. The problem is it saves the state of the slide when you change slides, but not when you close the course. So, a workaround is to add a "save and exit" button on the slide with the video, that when selected, brings the user to a new slide. That slide can have "your progress has been saved" text, and a "resume" button that uses the 'go to previous slide' trigger.

Thanks Sally, that was actually a brilliant suggestion. However, the other issue we are experiencing now is that whenever the window is closed in our LMS (we use Cornerstone) rather than clicking on the Exit button trigger, Cornerstone updates the training as Completed, even though they have not finished watching the video which is on slide one. I have created several projects with various triggers and slides and layers and all those triggers are null and void if someone clicks on the close window. Does anyone have suggestions?

Rubina - what are you using to indicate course completion when you publish the course in Storyline, and is the video the last slide they see? If so, add one more slide and put a Complete Course trigger on it. Otherwise, if you use the Exit Loop that Sally described, just visiting the video slide can trigger Course Completion.

Hi there, Steve. We have documented an issue with the video starting over on a slide when you revisit the slide, even if "resume saved state" is enabled. I added a seekbar and set that slide property in your project, and I can confirm that's the behavior I'm seeing as well.

I'm going to add your experience to our report, and I'll be able to update you here with any changes. I have to say, it's a really cool workaround you designed to resume media in the middle. I really hope we can get that working for you again!

Thanks Crystal - but I can't take credit for the exit/resume loop. I read about it somewhere on the E-Learning heroes site on a day when I was about to hit "Publish" on a course with a 45 minute video. Needless to say, I was soooo happy to add it into that course. And that's why it was so frustrating when I couldn't recreate it the other day or even get the original test course to work. I was beginning to think that my paranoia was real!

Not to be a PITA, but is there any hope of this ever coming back? I've started breaking the videos into smaller sections but that means that if they have to stop the video they have to do so when I choose the break, not when they need to. That doesn't work well for nurses doing their courses during down times on their shifts.

Thanks for checking in, and I know what a pain this bug has been for you. I've updated my team on this bug's continuing impact. I promise to share an update with you in this discussion as soon as I know more!

As promised, we're back to share that we just released Update 27 for Storyline 360. This release includes a fix for the issue where videos would start over when revisiting slides even if they were set to resume saved states.

I did the update more. the bookmarking of the video does not work it always restarts the video, I tested in the Modern and Classic players and both did not work have any other way to solve this problem?

The Resume video feature needs an exit loop (see attached) to work properly, and I assume it may also depend on the LMS. In our case, we use Healthstream for a LMS. The "Resume where you left off" option in HS takes you back to the beginning of the last slide in the course, so if you bail from the video will take you back to the beginning of the video. The exit loop creates a different slide to bail from so that when you go back to the video, Storyline can pick up where you left off.

2. Visiting a slide with a video, going to another slide, then going back to the slide with the video and having it resume properly is the issue that was corrected with the update Katie mentioned above.

If you're still running into trouble with this, and it's not working as Leslie described, I'd like to have our Support Team take a look at your files and pursue some additional troubleshooting! Can you share a copy of the .story file which includes the video by uploading it to us here?

While this solution works perfectly as explained, from a user perspective it is somewhat cumbersome. The published file should be able to remember where in the video the person left off, without them having to click a button to "save" their progress. By using Steve's solution we are left without being able to display the time left in a video because if the user pauses with the video controls and closes the window, the video will start at the beginning when they launch the course again.

I don't understand why from Leslie's answer that this is the expected behavior. You would think that if you exit a course on a slide with the video playing that it would resume right where you left off.

There are video SCORM wrappers advertised online that have the functionality to remember where a user left off without the need for them to visit a different slide, I would love to see similar functionality from such a robust tool like Storyline 360.

Thank you Ashley, great info. I have another question about video behavior for while inside a course. Steve's solution works well for me if you start a video, use a button or hotspot to go to a different slide after pausing the video, and then when you come back it resumes where you left off in the video.

What I'd like to do is allow the user to advance or rewind using the video controls, pause the video with Steve's method, and then when they come back to the slide they would resume to wherever they advanced or rewound to.

Using Steve's example Resume_video_test.story, you can test this behavior if you add video controls to his video, and then when playing it use the controls to fast forward to anywhere, like the 30 second mark. Then use his button to take you to the exit loop slide, click the button on that slide to resume the video, but you won't be taken to the 30 second mark, you'll be taken to wherever the video was before you fast forwarded.

Thanks Crystal. I could use the player seekbar to scrub the video and the slide timeline, however it adds a pause button, and I would then lose the functionality of Steve's return to slide solution if the student usesthe player seekbar pause button in place of the pause button taking them to a different slide so that they can resume the video when they return. I haven't found a way to hide the pause button of the player and force them to use a different button. It would be great if there were a trigger to go to another slide when the user pauses the timeline or media, but I don't see that option either. So the seekbar gives the functionality I'd like in one sense, but makes me lose the ability to take advantage of Steve's exit loop.

Thanks Steve. I also came across the issue where when clicking resume after exiting the course, the video would restart from the beginning, but the seek bar would be where it left off. Did you ever run into that problem?

I'm not sure because I never checked to see what the seek bar was doing. The video going back to the beginning was the problem that was out there for a while but finally resolved. I haven't done one of these recently. Hopefully someone from Articulate will jump in and enlighten us.

One of the decisions I have to make on a somewhat regular basis is how to tell a particular story. Should I write an article? What about a podcast? Would a video or live broadcast work better? How about a combination of all those media? The decision ultimately comes down to which format I think will best tell a story.

Many of you understand the benefits of video. A recent survey from LinkedIn of about 2,000 adult job seekers in the U.S. found that 62% of them believed sharing more about themselves on video would help them get a job. More than half would be excited to share a video talking about themselves and their goals with recruiters and hiring managers.

The data are from surveys LinkedIn conducted for the rollout of a new video feature called Cover Story. You can see more results from the survey and learn more about the methodology by clicking here.

One of the biggest misconceptions people may have about video resumes is that they can create one instead of a traditional text-based resume. Mann said video resumes are created in addition to your other marketing materials like a cover letter or resume.

Instead, Mann said she suggests including an opening slide for the video tailor-made for the specific company. Then, you just need to edit the opening slide for each employer. If you have a list of target employers, Mann said you can make all the opening slides at once.
