Dear Friend,
Tonight (Monday, February 28th) is Peace Action New York State's Black History Month program - a Conversation with Etan Thomas and Kevin Powell. We start at 7 PM and it is not too late to register and invite a student.
This event is part of our 2022 membership drive. When you join or renew your Peace Action New York State membership at any level -- that's your ticket to this event! STUDENTS ARE FREE!
Etan Thomas just published his new book: Police Brutality and White Supremacy: The Fight Against American Traditions. In the book we meet a whole range of sports figures, activists, family members of victims of police brutality, police officers, and heroes of the struggle for racial justice. These voices allow the reader to move through perspectives on all sides of the issue of reforming and/or re-imagining policing with respect and empathy. We highly recommend the book.
Kevin Powell's 2015 engrossing book, The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy's Journey into Manhood is a bildungsroman like no other - how a Black child growing up in Jersey City in the 60's and 70's found his voice as a writer and activist in the hip hop world of the 90's and beyond. We can't wait to hear these two brothers get together and engage on the subjects in Etan's new book -- and whatever else they decide to talk about.
The event includes a special live musical performance by Next Stop musicians.
