Palo Alto's XCAP Rail Committee is currently considering 4 designs for the Charleston/Meadow Grade Separation:
   1) Rail Trench (Charleston/Meadow kept at current elevation, rail lowered)
   2) Rail Viaduct (Charleston/Meadow kept at current elevation, rail raised 20 feet)
   3) Hybrid Rail Berm (Charleston/Meadow lowered 5 feet, rail raised 15 feet)
   4) Underpass (Rail/Alma remaining at current elevation, Charleston/Meadow lowered under both Rail/Alma)

Because the Charleston/Meadow underpass is a relatively new option, its PRELIMINARY analysis has just been completed.  The XCAP Rail Committee is holding an online Zoom meeting (Wednesday 5/20 at 4-6pm) to discuss this new underpass design.  This PRELIMINARY design is the first iteration, so please understand that this design is NOT final.

The Committee needs to hear public opinion about how to modify the design.  Input that explains your specific likes/dislike is very useful, along with suggestions on how the designs could be improved.

The meeting agenda is located on the ConnectingPaloAlto website:
This week's agenda includes both traffic analysis and pictures/video of the PRELIMINARY designs.  These can be accessed now via links in the PDF agenda listed above.  Other grade-separation documents are also located at the website

Please join us for the online Zoom meeting on Wednesday May 20, 4-6pm
       Meeting ID: 950 7632 9469
       Phone: 1-669-900-6833
You can also provide your input via the XCAP email address:

Three notes about XCAP email:
  1. Any email sent to xc...@cityofpaloalto.org becomes a public record and is posted on the XCAP website.  Please only include information that you want made public.
  2. Since the City's XCAP email address is not always reliable, please cc me (reck...@yahoo.com) so I can ensure that your XCAP email was delivered.
  3. Since in-person comments have more impact than email, please attend the meeting if at all possible.

Palo Alto's Grade Separation program is a once-in-a-generation project.  We need the public's help in shaping the design!

Thanks,

These are the consultants' first cut at a design.  The designs are not final.

The purpose of Wednesday's meeting is to hear the public's likes/dislikes and constructive suggestions.

Am I reading this right?  Park Blvd. will not be accessible anymore?
How do you turn left onto Charleston from Park?
How do you cross Charleston when on Park?
and
How do you turn left onto Alma from W. Meadow East bound.

Very confusing and worried it will be as bad as the Charleston Arastradero corridor design style of confusion and misdirection with road ins and outs that are not pleasant. Will it be possible to discuss?
