Check out Paul Thurott's review of the announced upgrade by Microsoft to SBS2008 and another online version called Aurora too...somewhat interesting if you ask me.

This info is very interesting.  Thanks Scott.

He’s way off base for the small business market in regards to on-premise data.  Even the red herring phrase ‘on-premise’ seems to lean towards having your data onsite and belonging to you as somehow bad or a lower end decision.

‘on-line’ or ‘cloud’ services will cost the client much more in the long run.

Aurora looks interesting but man o man am I not happy about them steering the ship into their own waters for their own cloud solutions.

I will have to read up or test all their backup and patch management stuff.  I’m not really anti MS, but I don’t like to rely on one vendor for the entire solution.  What happens to StorageCraft if all of a sudden MS product can do all this?

Using the WHS style of drive pooling and backup is very nice, and 25 is a nice number for  a small business.  Will be nice to have an upgrade to WHS that can actually be used in a business environment.

We’ll see how their BPOS solution married to this product pans out.  I really like having the Exchange mailboxes local, but maybe I’m just weird.  If it works out well, and partners can use their BPOS accounts, then I may change my mind.

I do see losing some revenue opportunities for my managed service practice – if the client discovers they have an integrated solution that does automatic backup and patch management, for the entire organization, and is super simple easy to do, then they don’t need me for anything.
