Choices in Routers

I was looking for an inexpensive router that would work in a LAN range
other than 192.168.n.n.
My Linksys are limited in that way but I found a DLink EBR-2310
Broadband EtherNet Router and it lets me put anything I want in all
four segments.
I look for specifications on back plane speed figuring some routers
are more than a bottleneck than others. I guess using a router labeled
gigahertz will be faster even with a 100mHz network.
Anybody else have thoughts?
