When we ask Pallet to destroy a node it's just created, we get an
'invalid managed object reference' error from VirtualBox, and the
operation fails.

Has anyone else met this?

I haven’t seen this problem, but I will look into it tomorrow and try to reproduce. I have the same OS and JVM version.

What is the state of the machine after this error? Is the machine stopped? is it aborted? or deleted?

Oops - should have mentioned that.  After the errir, it's powered down, but not removed.  On the moderately rare occasions when the operation works - it's successful 25% of the time - then the machine is also removed, without any errors.

I've updated the logs etc at https://github.com/jonoflayham/pallet-vmfest-simple, btw.

I think it's some kind of race condition.  Sometimes, everything works fine; most of the time, Pallet/VMFest ends up asking VirtualBox about a managed object which no longer exists.  At least, that's what the vboxwebsrv log seems to show.
