--Hi Mike,
Yes, Terry and I were just discussing over texts that we need to reschedule. The weather looks like crap. According to Joe Bair, the PALE ALES 20+ year streak of beautiful weather on the BB day is over.
We have two potential dates for the rescheduled BB. The primary date is in 2 weeks (May 21). There is also an outside chance that Terry will be free next (May 14), but he’s not sure yet. I’m hoping to hear back from everyone that planned to brew with us (Lance, Gary, Mike Ultee, and James) about those two dates. But, I’m also interested to know if anyone that had a conflict for this Saturday is able to make either the 14th or the 21st.
Cheers!

Hi Terry and Fellow Brewers:
The weather forecast looks soggy & windy for this Saturday’s Big Brew, with 90% probability of rain and 15-25 mph winds. This could present challenges in terms of keeping propane burners lit and staying dry. Are we still on Saturday, or is there a rain-date plan? The advance forecast for the following Saturday looks more promising.
Thanks.
Mike

Hi gang - I plan to brew a pale ale recipe variation based on a recipe that won Gold at the AHA competition in 2018 - Alabama Hopslammer American Pale Ale. Made this once before and we loved it. Gary, if you're up for that I already have the malts, just need hops and yeast and it will be easier for 2 of us to work the process. I have a 15-gallon boil kettle and a mash tun plenty large enough for a 10 gallon batch.
I'm letting a few neighbors know what's going on, maybe one or two will stop by for a beer and to see the process, one guy brewed a hefeweizen with me years ago but decided it was too much work to get into it. Also, my son Brian has been serving beer at Lone Eagle in Flemington for the past 8 months. They promoted him to shift leader and the customers seem to appreciate his knowledge of beer, so the Lone Eagle folks like him.. One of the founders, Bob King, said he might stop by to meet the group. Marc, if there's any interest among club members for an in-person meeting this summer, Lone Eagle has nice facility here and I'm pretty sure they'd be happy to host a meeting and tell us how they built the business. No food sold there but many nearby places for delivery. Their beer was crap-to-mediocre for the first couple of years, but has improved dramatically in the past 2 years when they hire a new head brewer.
Anyone heard from Larry? Do we need to plan mint juleps?
Looking forward to seeing you all!

Hi Lance:
I’m in for a 12-gallon batch. I had sent a note to Marc earlier. Looking forward to seeing you and and all the PALE ALES brewers that day.
For those who prefer well water like I do, host Terry let me know earlier that he has a well with a new pump and plenty of capacity. Even for a bunch of thirsty home brewers!😁
Cheers,
Count me in for a 5 gallon batch!

Good afternoon Brewers!
We’ve decided to go with the Red Eyes (American Red Ale) for the Big Brew. Our next task is to get a head count of brewers so we can source ingredients in time. As a reminder, the date is Saturday May 7 and the location is Terry’s home in Flemington. You are more than welcome to come hang out if you are not brewing. However, if you plan to brew but you don’t intend to brew the chosen recipe (or you insist on sourcing it yourself), I’d also like to hear from to help plan out the brewing area.
I would very much like to have a headcount by this Friday if possible -- especially given the unpredictability of supply chain issues. The price for each 5-gal batch should be around $35.00. But, we don’t have that dialed in yet. If you have any questions, please fire away.
Very much looking forward to catching up with you all with the smell of wort in the air!

Greetings Brewers,
I hope this finds you well. I couldn’t be happier to see the national COVID risk map finally turning colors besides shades of red! I’m cautiously optimistic that we are on the other side of the pandemic and things might start getting back to normal.
The first Saturday in May falls on the 7th this year. We’re switching things up slightly and headed out to the home of Terry and Karen Gartland in Flemington, NJ. The address is 5 Sawmill Way, Flemington, NJ 08822.
We haven’t even begun talking about recipes yet. So, if you have any ideas, let’s have them!
On a related topic, I’m actively working on trying to setup up some meetings for the Spring and Fall. If you have any ideas, please pass them along. While I think we can find places to meet and topics to cover, I’ve learned that our typical formula for a homebrew club meeting might need to be modified as we migrate back to something resembling normal. More on this another time.
Hope to see you all for the Big Brew!
Marc

Love the pic, Mike! Personally, I would have risked the back injury and worn all your homebrew contest medals around your neck for the pic!
So, it’s looking like the 21st based on the early feedback (despite Dave trying to change the date of Mother’s Day). FYI, if anyone wants to join, I can add your ingredients to our order (assuming you’re good with brewing the American Red). I worked up the recipe in Beersmith (attached). It hits the OG, ABV and IBUs of the original brewery-sized recipe we were following.

Hi Marc:
Thanks for the quick response. It tuns out that following Saturday (May 14th) is not good for me, while the 21st is open.
Cheers,
Mike
P.S. One of my nephews in Virginia who is interested in brewing spotted my photo in the current issue of Zymurgy. He was impressed! 😁 AHA was asking for its members to send in some photos, so I sent in a couple of shots. See photo of page that my nephew sent — my copy of this issue has not yet arrived.
