Hi everyone!
First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has donated to support me in this mission trip! I must also appologize that I was not able to send out an individual thank you letter to each one of you. I was so busy with fundraising before I left, that I never had time to sit down and write one up while I was still in the States. Because of all your generous support, I have been able to come here and participate in the work that God is doing here.
As most of you know, I committed to a two year mission call. I would like to show you an email which I just received from AFM:
It is my pleasure to tell you that Adventist Frontier Missions has accepted you as a student missionary for the year 2006-2007, continuing with the SSD-14 call (Outreach/development) to work with the George family in Palawan. We are thrilled you decided to stay another year and pray that this additional time of service will shape you for the career God has in mind for you.
The cost of this second year will only be $1,920 (plus $650 extra if you wish to attend re-entry after you return home). Please note that this amount needs to be in your account here at AFM by July 1, 2006, in order for you to stay the second year and that you are requested not to return home between these two years of service. Thank you for your work thus far, Jeremy!
As you can see, there is still a little left to go yet, but not much!
For those of you who have been diligently reading these updates, you can see the many ways that God has been working here, and is continuing to work. Since the George family has gone on Furlough, we SMs have been left in charge of running this project for the next 5 months until their return. We have many ideas for things that we can do to help strengthen the church members here. Among these, we've begun having a prayer meeting every morning in which we pray only for the Pelawan people, and the specific trials that they face, as well as for God's guidance to be upon us so that we will know better how to do His will. These are things that we've been praying about from the beginning, but previously we didn't have a focussed GROUP prayer EVERY DAY. We have also made plans for each of us to target one of the local villages or a family in that village, to make regular visits to their home, also sleeping at their home(s) as opportunity allows. This is with the intent of intesifying our relationships with those specific people so we can be stronger witnesses for God to them. Soon I will be taking one week to hike all over these mountains with one of the Pelawan men from out church. My purpose in this is to have him take me to as many of the villages in this valley as possible within that time. I'll also be bringing along my compass to take compass readings off the landmarks which will allow us to plot out every one of these villages on a map. With this information, it will make it much easier for us to know where everyone lives, and will help facilitate the medical work being done here, as well as witnessing opportunities. And these are just the plans God has laid for us in the few weeks since the George's went on furlough! There's still MUCH more to come, and I'm VERY excited to be a part of it.
You too, can be a significant part of the work still to be done here. There are a little over 120 people recieving this email. If everyone who receives this letter donated just $21.41 then every dollar left to raise would be accounted for. I realize that not everyone is in a financial situation to be able to contribute. I understand your situation, and that's ok. There are many more people who have access to this letter than just the ones whose addresses are on the mailing list. For those churches who have been receiving this email through just one or two people, you too are invited to contribute as the Lord leads you. The only thing I ask of anyone is that you pray first, and then listen to what the Lord instructs. Whatever He asks of you is all that I expect and will be greatly appreciated. If all you're able to give is your 2 mites, and that's all the Lord asks of you, then it will be received with His blessing, and the heartfelt thanks of all the Pelawans who will benefit from it, as well as my own.
Some of you have been making regular donations each month of a certain amount, up to a total amount which you informed me of prior to my departure from the U.S. Since the total amount you agreed to has not yet been recieved, then that which remains to be sent in has not been figured into this goal. You are perfectly welcome to simply continue your pledged donations and nothing more. However, if you feel that the Lord is asking you to give more, then that's certainly ok as well.
If you feel the Lord leading you to donate there are several ways you can go about it.
1. You can go to
www.afmonline.org and click on "Student Missionaries" link, then my name,
and the "Donate" link at the bottom of the page.
2. You can call AFM's toll free number
1-(800)-937-4236 and make your donation over the
phone with credit/debit card.
3. You can mail your donation to afm at:
AFM
PO Box 346

Make sure that you tell them the donation is for the student missionary Jeremy Gable at
the Palawano Project
Thank you again SO MUCH for all of your help, and may God bless you richly!
With love in Christ,
Jeremy
