Government neglecting Malampuzha constituency

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has accused the Government
of neglecting the developmental needs of the Malampuzha constituency
represented by him in the Assembly.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Achuthanandan said
that the Government had promised sanction for projects worth Rs.4.5
crores for the development of Malampuzha Garden in its golden jubilee
year. But it had not given sanction to the projects though the golden
jubilee was on October 9, 2005.

He said the Government did not even bother to organise a golden jubilee
celebration of the construction of the Malampuzha dam and garden.

It is the same with the rock garden that completed 10 years of
existence on January 7, 2006. "The proposal for the renovation of the
rock garden and its expansion at a cost of Rs.47 lakhs is also pending
with the Government for sanction," he said.

The dam is the biggest irrigation reservoir in the State irrigating
50,000 acres of paddy for two crops. Yet the State Government has not
recognised its importance to the economy of the State, he said.
