Hi at all,
I built my PAL-2 #31 during the last weeks and it was fun.
I got replacement ICs as well so I have a mix of manufacturers running.

To get a positive start with my PAL, as I am almost new to ML, i tried Basic at first and found the MS Basic v1.2 at Hans Ottens "Compendium" Site.

I used Tera Term to send the Basic 1.2 file kb9v2.pap (2023-05-31) to my PAL-2, using "L". After a few minutes I tried to start it with "G" from 3FB1 without success.
I tested the file with Hans Simulator (another cool tool), same result.
I used the kb9v2.bin file at start 2000 with the simulator and this was working.

I compared the memory Address 3FB1 after loading the files using the Simulator and saw that the bin file shows "D8" but the pap file shows "4C".
Maybe I do something wrong?

Anyway, I like my PAL-2,
many Thx for this cool piece of hardware!

All the best..

Hi Lars,
 4C is correct.
Also try to disable 8K7.  The upmost ram needs to be turned off for basic iirc.
Is the Single step switch in the correct position?

Hi Nils,
I tried with 8K7 off. The same, it doesn't work (for me).
"SST" is set the right.

It there a way to transfer the working bin file to the PAL?

Welcome Lars! And welcome #31!

The KIM-1/PAL-1/2 can load/save papertape format files in TTY mode.
(set the send line delay to 200 ms and the character delay to 10 ms in your terminal emulator).

Convert the bin file to papertape with a utility (my Convert 8 bit hex files for example) or save from the memory in the simulator to papertape.

I recreated the papertape file again in kb9v12.zip, I saw the date was not correct.

Please download again, the papertape file should now be 25 oct 2025. It loads fine in the Simulator.

Servus,
I tested it this morgning with ma PAL-2 . The state of the switches doesnt't matter at all. In position 3FB1 there is a D8
So, mybe redownload the file as Hans suggested and try it again ;)

And if you get it going, here are some really huuuuge BASIC games.

Important notice: set the line delay to 500 if entering large BASIC programs. MS Basic takes some time to be ready to accept input, if the program is large.

Have a nice sunday,
Nilss
