I have a question about soldering these pin things. How do y'all keep them spaced correctly and vertical? Here are an example of the unsoldered pins I'm talking about:

and the soldered pins:

When I did these on the PAL, I had a heck of a time keeping them spaced and even. What's the trick?

I have more to do with the new kits, so I'm asking before I try it.

Solder one pin on each end, then heat up one of those pins and adjust, then the other. Once the header is straight, solder the rest of the pins.

I use two of the "option jumpers" (like is used to select the serial port or the keypad) to hold them the right space apart. I usually solder one pin (towards the middle) on each strip and then once they are solid and properly spaced, solder everything except the ends, remove the jumpers, and then solder the last four pins.

Thanks,

Thanks. I think this sounds like a good plan. I’ll let you know how it goes!

I insert the two rows of pins to a breadboard side by side, the breadboard pitch is the same as the pins (2.54mm/0.1inch), then solder them on the PAL PCB, then pull them out from the breadboard.

Put the headers on a female cable connector, and then solder them. That way you are sure it fits!

Both this and Liu’s idea are so much obviously better than my method that I retract it. I also feel kind of silly for not thinking of at least one of them before.

So far, the breadboard works best. I tried the cable idea, but it's not as stable to solder from. I haven't tried the jumpers yet. But thanks everybody for the suggestions!
