Hi All,
This isn’t exactly PAL-oriented, but I don’t really chat on any of the other KIM-1 forums so I thought I’d share that I built one of Eduardo Casino’s wonderful KIM-1 replicas. I still need to create the more accurate keypad (I have the parts, just need to print the case and order the PCB).
I will note that I used Liu’s PCB for diagnostics, though. Two of my memory chips were bad and, surprisingly, the first 6502 I used.
Now some news: due to tariffs, the KIM-1 PCBs were a bit pricey (I did the ENIG traces because it honestly wasn’t that much more considering shipping and tariffs). So, while I wouldn’t do it at a profit, if some on here were interested in the KIM-1, 6530 adapter, keyboard, and diagnostic PCBs, I’d be willing to part with 3 of them (I’m going to keep one of the 5 for a possible future project). I’m interested in selling them as a set (you’ll want the adapter and diagnostics, trust me). Since JLCPCB is basically giving away PCBs that are small for the price of shipping, the only real costs for you would be 1/5th of the main PCB, shipping, tariffs and the shipping in the U.S.
I’ll have to sit down and figure out the exact cost, but I think it would be around $50 for the set.
Let me know if you’re interested (preferably off-list to minimize noise).
FYI, you’ll still need to track down the parts (I recommend the Octoparts BOM on Eduardo’s github account) which can get a bit pricey for some parts.
Thanks!
Hans
