Good Morning Group,
as many of you already know, I created a short little Booklet about the history of the KIM-1 and whats left today. It's originally written in german (well, my english is nort worth printing in a book).

Dave Hassler kindly already translated the first two chapters and gave me tips to use a DTP program, that not messes around with inserted pictures (libreoffice is not designed for this).
I'd be very happy if someone is willing to participate and help translating more parts. On the original cover of the First book of KIM there was more than one author, and so it should be here :)
If you want you can read the first two translated chapters in this version:

Hey Group,
I've spend the entire day and here it is: the rough translation of

The Last Book Of KIM

to english (by google translate).

It is not worth releasing it right now, I'd like to have a native speaker take a look at it first :D
But at least you now have a starting point

Have a brilliant weekend,
Nils

Happy to polish the English. Let me know of the best way to edit the manuscript. (I'm a technical writer by profession).

Thank you for the offer, John. I really need some help polishing up the bumpy translation. Though I am really impressed what progress google translate did in the last years, amazing.

I used ( on Dave Hasslers recommendation - thanks again for the hint) Scribus as DTP program.
This program can export to PDF / EPS. And of course I can also export the whole project for scribus...

Scribus is really doing it's job, even if the beginning with this program was 'demanding'. The learning curve was steep. Easy tasks are hidden, but if you figure out how the rabbit runs, the wole process speeds up a lot. I will never again use word or libreoffice to design a brochure or booklet.

Let me know what fits for you,
Nils

Well that's a new app to me. Doesn't run on my Mac sadly.

As a Microsoft employee, what happened with 'eat your own dogfood'?

Also, I'm a Mac user, what doesn't run on Mac? Scribus does, I'm pretty sure. May need macports, though.

You know Microsoft makes software for Mac, Linux as well as Windows right? It's a software company.

Looks like it doesn't run on current Mac OS releases.

Ah. That figures and is a big reason I switched over to Debian 12. I was getting tired of the forced upgrades and stuff not working on the new version. Ran Mojave into the dirt cuz it was great and it played nice with 32 bit apps. When I tried Ventura a few months back, I got fed up with the forced nature of incompatibilties and ditched MacOS for the most part. There are parts I love, but its starting to smack of tyranny, these days. Deb 12 doesn't care if I want to run a 32 bit app on it or not... And my ancient licensed copy of acrobat actually runs in wine quite nicely!

All this discussion doesn't solve the problem of my lacking english skills ¯\(°_o)/¯

Here is a pure Text version. Hard to read ... so many letters
but platform independent...

My Eyes hurt.

Here is the translation of my booklet "The Last book of KIM"  - translation by John Kennedy

and here is the ebook version, which gave me headache... (it's been a long  time since I've had to use plain html :D )

Thank you John!
Without you this would not have been possible.

Hope you like it,
Nils

A work of love by Nils. My contribution was as small as could be.
