Hi everybody,

Does anybody run Peter Jennings MICRO ADE on PAL-1?
If yes, in which configuration? (UART etc.)

Regards

MICRO ADE requires a KIM-/PAL-1 with RAM at 2000 and up. And a working TTY connection.

A PAL-1 wit a 32K RAM card is enough, attach your terminal at the RS232 port.

KIM-1 Software – Retro Computing has the manual and binary and source.

Note that without audio cassette drives with motor control (see the manual of MICRO ADE),  you can edit/assemble only one source in memory.
I did that in 1978 before I had a dual drive cassette deck under motor control, served me well until 1985. Large  programs, large documents.

Method to assemble with one source in memory is in the manual, follow it exactly.

OK, Thanks a lot.
Therefore, there is no need for using a hardware UART chip?
(if I understand it correctly, PAL-1 serial connection is a software implementation, "bit banged").

A PAL-1 is a KIM-1. Same hardware , same software.

I was a little confused by the statement "... adapted to ACIA" in "MICADE.asm".
In my opinion ACIA would stand for 6551 Asynchronous Communications Interface Adapter (ACIA).
A chip that I did not see when I soldered my PAL-1.

I understand, the remark may lead to confusion.

My aim of the website is to recover the original versions of software. So alterations, either made in the old days or in modern times are to be clearly noted.

I based my source on the original listing.
I compared the output of the asembly to the binary I rescued from my audio cassette archive to make sure it was OK. And it is.
The binary I have from the 70ties was indeed adapted to my system at the time (VT100,  ACIA interface, H14 matrix printer. Some jumps to code outside of MICRO ADE, well known points, that is all.

I am 100% certain the source and binary  you find on my website is the original for the unmodified KIM-1.

The source and binary you find now on the website  is the original MICRO ADE, 100% identical to the listing in the manual, without any later changes.
Tested on the KIM-1 Simulator.

Many thanks for your answer and BTW for your effort to maintain this code.
After having soldered my 32 KB RAM extension I can confirm that the code runs on my PAL-1.
