Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman<aurah...@gmail.com writes:

I am pleased to inform you that the formal inauguration of the research centre on natural product chemistry named after me in the largest university of Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi Mara) will be held on 4th March 2013. A large number of eminent educationists have been invited to Malaysia to participate in this historic event which include  the Rectors of NUST and COMSATS, the VC of Bhawalpur University and the Director of the International Centre of Chemical and Biological Sciences at University of Karachi. The Institute will work on full-fledged PhD programs in fields such as organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, neuroscience, proteomics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy and molecular medicine with a special focus on the bioactive constituents of terrestrial plants and marine sources.

A formal Memorandum of Understanding will be signed on the occasion between the Universiti Teknologi Mara in Malaysia with four institutions in Pakistan ---these are National University of Science and Technology (they have also named a postgraduate research  institute after me---the Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences), COMSATS. International Centre for Chemical and Applied Biosciences at Karachi University and the University of Bhawalpur. A copy of the MoUis attached. The Rectors of NUST and COMSATS, the Vice Chancellor of Bhawalpur University and the Director of International Centre of Chemical and Biological Sciences at Karachi University will be going to Malaysia to participate in the function and sign the MoU. The collaborations will not be confined to institutions in Pakistan but will take place with top scientists from all over the world.

To celebrate the occasion the Universiti Teknologi Mara has organised a major international conference on natural products chemistry. This two-day event will bring together leading scientists from USA, Europe, Australia, Japan and Asia.  I have been asked to give the opening “Jack Cannon Lecture”.

Kind regards
