An online poll entitled ‘Chinas's diplomatic practice of issuing visas to Kashmiris on separate paper and not on the Indian passport is politically very significant, and clearly shows that the Peoples Republic of China continues to support the just cause of Kashmir' Was recently conducted by Mahazi-Islami, through its website www.mahazi-Islami.com. The poll remained live from 4th October, 2009 till 3rd November, 2009, and the detailed results are available at Detailed Results

At the conclusion of this poll, we wish to, first, sincerely thank all the participants, for their time and attention. It is really appreciated, and we hope they will continue cooperating with our efforts of drawing attention to the issues of vital collective interest. In the light of all the opinions expressed by the participants, let me make some brief submissions as under:

There is no doubt that China’s diplomatic practice of issuing visas to Kashmiris on separate paper and not on the Indian passport is politically very significant, and clearly shows that the Peoples Republic of China continues to support the just cause of Kashmir. Mahazi-Islami fully agrees with the proposition and is delighted at the fact that the poll has received a huge response, and most of those who participated agreed with the motion.

Let us briefly summarize how we should, and should not, look at such matters as the one put on vote here. Chinese action is basically to be viewed in the broader gamut of international relations, and not as a love affair or romantic affair with Kashmiris, Muslims or the state of Pakistan. We do not have to use excavating tools to dig deep and fully ascertain if there is truthfulness and sincerity behind this action of the Chinese state. We have to understand, appreciate, and exploit (to our collective advantage) the political usefulness, and the strategic potential of such actions, without raising irrelevant questions of intentions and motives, which though absolutely important in their own right, are simply extraneous to the whole affair here. We have to take it as something given, and proceed ahead from this premise that every state worth its salt in the world has a vision of future, a proper roadmap to make that vision a reality, a set of policies conforming to that roadmap and concrete objectives pursued through all the legitimate instruments available to the state, in particular foreign policy and interaction with fellow states. As such, an element of self-interest is always there, so could be in the Chinese action also, but that does not deprive this action of its political/strategic value for the cause of Kashmir. One thing that every man and woman genuinely concerned about the liberation of Kashmir from India must understand is that India will end its illegal occupation of Kashmir only and only when the costs of holding on to it outweigh its benefits, that is, when Indian state finds it unmanageably difficult to govern Kashmir. Any and everything, big or small, which contributes to that really happening is a step ahead towards the liberation of Kashmir. Chinese action is precisely that: big or small, it creates a real difficulty for India, and, therefore, deserves our gratitude, and last but not least, China is not Bhutan, its actions do count in the global affairs.
