--UNITE AGAINST INTERNATIONAL ISLAMOPHOBIA
Salaam and Good Evening Friends -
Ramadan Kareem to everyone!
Your quick response to this request can make a difference. Our friends at AMI have helped to create an automated method to contact our 2 senators from Maryland. Please sign the letter directed to your two U.S. Senators, which encourages them to co-sponsor or support Senate Bill 3384 (The Combating International Islamophobia Act).
This bill would establish in the US Department of State a position of Special Envoy for monitoring and combating Islamophobia around the world. This office will be required to prepare annual reports on human rights and religious freedom around the world and will include: (1) acts of physical violence and harassment of Muslims; (2) incitement of propaganda by government and non-government media that attempt to justify or promote hatred or incite violence against Muslims; and (3) actions taken by a country's government to respond to such acts.
Please also forward this email to your family and friends. A version of the Combating International Islamophobia Act bill has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives and President Joe Biden’s administration supports the legislation. Once passed by the U.S. Senate this year, President Biden is expected to sign this legislation. As a result, the State Department will have the tools to document and report on Islamophobia around the world. This will be a crucial step in monitoring and documenting acts of Islamophobia in China, India, Myanmar and elsewhere.
Please use this link to reach out to your senator. In less than two minutes, you make a difference.
Respectfully,
MCMC Board of Directors
