"Empty pockets, usually conisdered as curse, can teach profund life changing lessons. It was 10th year of my gov job and my one year old baby daugther was sick. We’re running to doctors and a specialist prescribed her some imported medicine. I went to pharmacy and price of medi was $20. I checked my vallet and it had half money. I came out empty handed, broken heart and teary eyes. But somehow I didn’t loose hope in God as I knew He would definitely make things easy for me. Daughter became well while I kept learning and doing hard work in same job, got another posting and landed into field of internetworking, very unusual for a mechanical engineer at that time. A new world of learning started for me. A few years after, I quit the job for our humble startup PC assembly shop and no looking back since then except to recall old hard days whenever I encounter a new challenge. God has been kind to bring laurels to my way since then.

A broken heart, empty pocket and failure can become your greatest teacher and coach if your faith is greater than these setbacks. “Surely with hardship comes ease - Quran 94:5”.

"A trip down memory lane... The time I didn't have the $60 to buy two cameras for my computer vision experiment... what a lesson!

Holidays were coming up and staff were expecting advance salaries. Those were tough times when we ran out of capital. As ironic as it may seem, we did not even have enough funds to pay our payroll apart from being thrilled to have developed the first algorithm to extract 3D features from a human face.

In order to test our development, we would need two specific cameras that cost 6000 rupees ($60 at that time). I could not spare $60 to purchase those cameras. Yup, you heard me correctly!! It literally makes me laugh and cry at the same time that we didn't have 6000 Rs back then. All of my options for getting a mere loan had run out. Now what? Beg someone or give up? Well I never give up, so I even tried to beg friends and family, but I already owed them enough that they didn't bulge...

When nothing helped, Noman Faisal (the best salesman I've ever met disguised as a Master Chef of Soloinsight (CloudGate Platform)) borrowed a bike from his friend (my car was not working) and rode me to Hall Road. Those who haven't been to Lahore, it's the epicenter of electronics in Pakistan.

His idea was to ask the shopkeepers at the electronics market to let us try the cameras at least on our laptops while we window shopped. We hopped from store to store to find the desired cameras and lenses. A shopkeeper saw our excitement and asked what we could do with his cameras. The shopkeeper stared at us with disbelief when Noman described features we could have developed. I don't know what magic words Noman pitched him that he offered to borrow the cameras for two weeks so that we could solve a few problems of his with computer vision.

Yessssssss that was the moment. The turning point of our career was early 2007... Not only did we meet the shopkeeper's requirements, but we spent days and nights improving our algorithm and demoed those cameras to many potential customers.... SOLD... within a week... Noman did it again.... Noman was waving a big check in his hand. Not only did we pay for cameras we couldn't afford, but we also paid our staff's salaries in advance...

Noman taught me that when you choose not to give up, God helps those who help themselves... Thank you, Noman, for believing and weaving the dreams together... and over two decades of friendship. So proud of you... A very special Happy Birthday to you :)

Together, we've come a long way. TodaySoloinsight (CloudGate Platform) generates millions of $$$ in recurring revenue, & has enabled some of the most iconic high rise buildings, fortune 100 companies, and vast healthcare facilities spread across North America and Europe as the best technology stack for the security industry. Interestingly, it's built on top of the same source code we gave the foundation back in 2007 with those $60 cameras. "
