AWARENESS ABOUT FREE LEGAL AID THROUGH DISTRICT LEGAL EMPOWERMENT COMMITTEES (DLECs)

Dear Members,
The Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) has constituted the District Legal Empowerment Committees (DLECs) to provide free legal aid to poor and vulnerable persons who are unable to pursue their cases in court of law for want of financial hardship. Currently, such committees are functioning across the country in 129 districts including the erstwhile FATA.
The constitution of DLECs is an important and unique initiative of LJCP whereby substantial amount from the Access to Justice Development Fund (AJDF), an endowment established by the Government of Pakistan, is placed at the disposal of DLECs for extending free legal aid to the deserving litigants in terms of professional fee of lawyer, court fee, copying charges, process fee and any other appropriate area. We feel that the optimum benefit of this forum is not being achieved for want of awareness amongst the masses and even the relevant stakeholders are unaware about the constitution of such committees and their mandate.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan/Chairman, LJCP has been pleased to direct for launching awareness campaign for effective and efficient utilization of this unique forum to ease the miseries of deserving litigants by ensuring their right to access to justice. To this end, LJCP has developed an awareness material, which includes poster and Urdu writeup that briefly highlights the mandate, functions and procedure for providing free legal aid.
It would be highly appreciated if you may consider the possibility of adopting our awareness material in your awareness campaign through social media forums for the benefit of the community at large.
