Two-Day March against the cutting of forests, earth filling in the sea and destruction of ecosystem of the coast

February 08 and 09, 2011 at 10 AM from Kakapir Village to Press Club Karachi

Dear Sir,

The sea lords of Karachi are mercilessly destroying the mangroves, occupying the villages of fishermen and selling the coastal land. Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) has been raising voice against such activities since the day one. Recently, PFF organized a Consultation Meeting on February 01, 2011 regarding the said issue with all relevant stakeholders in order to develop a joint strategy to cope with. But unfortunately, as the result of this meeting, the land mafia reacted in a more criminal way. They have lodged an FIR against the Chairman of PFF and ten other fishermen which is totally on fake grounds.

In order to protest against the land mafia and their malpractices, PFF is going to organize a 2-day March from Kakapir Village to Karachi Press Club in which thousands of fishermen from 129 Km long strip of Karachi coast, civil society, journalists and leaders of different political parties and environmentalists will participate. You are cordially invited to participate in the march and to strengthen our voice against the destruction of ecosystem of the coast.

Programme:

· Day First (February 08, 2011): The march will start from Kakapir Village at 10 AM and will end at ICI Flyover in the evening

· Day Second (February 09, 2011): The march will start from ICI Flyover and will end at the Press Club Karachi in the evening
