Do YOU want to be a part of making history?
In 2008, JusticeMakers launched a global competition that identified 11 "heroes of criminal justice." These 11 recipients received $5,000 in funding to implement their local initiatives. The JusticeMakers fellows were able to share their stories, aspirations, and challenges and are the faces of the larger criminal justice movement.
In 2010, IBJ conducted a four-month long JusticeMakers competition, and awarded 11 Asia JusticeMakers fellowships. The winning projects were selected for their innovation, relevance, sustainability, and potential to make the country's justice system fairer and more accessible for ordinary persons accused of crimes.
Today is your opportunity to apply to become a JusticeMaker as a part of the 2011 Competition and make history.Win $5,000 to implement your innovative proposal to reform your local criminal justice system, training through IBJ's online Legal Training Resource Center, and a connection to an international community of supporters aligned in IBJ's mission to ensure that every man, woman, and child has access to legal representation.
Only 31 days left - Applications are due November 25, 2010. Download the Application and Instructions HERE in English, Spanish, or French.

H.M. Harshi Chitrangi Perera (Sri Lanka) is building a systematic and competent pool of legal resources to alleviate the problems in the Sri Lankan legal system: lack of respect for the rights of the accused, their lack of knowledge of their rights, and poor training of defense attorneys. She will identify and provide a set of female pre-trial detainees with legal representation, educating female prisoners about their rights during the identification process.
