Hi All,

Neil Lax, a PhD student in my lab, will be defending his PhD dissertation Tuesday at 2pm in Laura Falk Lecture Hall (first floor of Mellon Hall on the side of the building with the BSNES dean's office entrance door).

This is a public presentation and you are all welcome to attend.

Title of the talk is "Characterization of G-protein coupled receptors in pain, depression and anxiety" and will focus on Neil's characterization of a novel extract from a marine cyanobacteria (collected by the Tidgewell lab) for antidepressant, anti-anxiety and analgesic activity in mice.

Best,
Ben

PS Party will be at 4/4:30pm outside Mellon 262!

Dear Students,

A reminder (and introduction) - We have funds available to support students to travel to conferences and present their scientific research on pain.

Deadline for applications is rolling but applications should be submitted at least 30 days before the conference.

In order to be eligible you need to show that your abstract has been accepted, attempt to apply for an official conference travel award (if available), and describe specific expenses that are not covered by other sources (e.g. department, etc).

Additional instructions are contained in the attached document. Send applications to me at kol...@duq.edu.

Best,
Ben Kolber
