Dear Pain Folks,
Two back-to-back events this Friday:
1. PAIN JC We'll start the Pain day off with our last journal club of 2017. 12pm in Mellon 202 (food will not be served b/c of the 1pm holiday party but please feel free to bring a lunch if you would like). Dr. Amy Phelps, one of our newest members of the CPRC, will be presenting two elements related to her expertise as a statistician.
First, she will present a recent report from NPR as an example of situations in which underpowered studies can be misrepresented (see "Lies, Fake news or simply misleading").
Second, she will present a recent pain article that she published with David Provenzano (2017 Beidler).
One of the things that I've asked Dr. Phelps to touch on is the common stats mistakes that basic scientists make in design studies and doing analysis. You don't want to miss her insight!!
2. HOLIDAY PARTY Right after the journal club, 4th floor Mellon Hall near the Bayer Learning Center side of the building we will be having a joint Holiday party with some of the other Consortia on campus. Please feel free to bring a snack/appetizer to share.
Best,
Ben
