In your syllabus you have a paper that lists the 12 verb tenses used
in English. This week you should focus on 9) Future simple: (ie. I
will eat.) as you write your journal entry.

Describe what you will do during the upcoming Chuseok Holiday. Also,
talk about what makes this holiday special for you.

As you know, Chu-seok is similar to the Thanksgiving day in USA.
The long (but this year's chu-seok isn't that long ㅠ_ㅠ) Chu-seok
holiday getting start and I'll enjoy oversleep as much I want.
Then, I'm going to go to grandmother's house as usual.
My grandmother lives in Dae-jeon.
I'm so happy that I don't have to worry about heavy traffic jam.
I'll meet relatives and grandmother. My grandfather passed away
30 years ago.
So, I don't know much about my grandfather at all.
Anyway, when all my relatives gather, we'll make the Song-pyun.
My song-pyun will more sugary than others.
Because I'll put more sugar and it will be delicious. ^^
Every Song-pyun that I made is not good looking.
I feel little worried because there's saying if someone makes
Song- pyun looking good, she will get pretty child.
Have you ever heard of that?
This end is realness, does not know but this time
I'll try my best.^^;;
Next morning, we will have memorial service for our ancestors.
The memorial service is over, I'll have breakfast with my big family.
After that, I'm going to play korean card game which is GOSTOP
with my relatives.
I'm also going to go to my mother side family house.
At there, I have to look after my cousins.
There are many baby cousins.
Looking after them is my job, and I like them.
At the last day of long Chu-seok, I'll have dinner with my family and
go to a karaoke too.
At last, when I see the full moon, I'll make my wish at the end of
the
day.
It will be very busy on Chu-seok.
I wish you have a nice and sweet hoilday too.

Chuseok is really happy day.
My relatives don't come to my house anybody because my father is an
only son.
Only my family members(father, mother, older sister and me) will be at
home.
There won't any special things in my house even though the day is
just chuseok.
I always too bored and lonely.
but that's ok. my maternal grandmother's house is near my house. just
5minutes?
so after my family will visit our family graves, we are going to go
to my maternal grandmother's house.
I always happy because there are many relatives.

Chuseok falls on weekend this year. I have a part-time job on weekend
so I'm going to go to work on weekend.
so I feel sad that I won't help my mother and won't visit my
grandparent's graves.
but one of good things is that I'll making almost twice as much pay.
^^;

In the evening, I'll watch many movies on TV. In Chuseok, All
broadcasting station will broadcast all kinds of movies.
Chuseok which falls on August 15 of the lunar calendar. My birthday is
on August 17 of the lunar calendar.
so I'll waiting for chuseok.

What do you plan to do during the holiday? I hope you'll enjoy
holiday, Ben.^^

Dear Ben,

'We eat mooncakes on mid-autumn day.' this was one of the sentences
in an English context about the Chinese traditional festival which I
have learned in middle school. It seems quite interesting that I am
now going to spend the so-called mid-autumn day in China here in Korea
where it is called chuseok and Korean people eat "송병" instead of moon-
cake. So, I am just wondering what does this festival mean to those
who are not Chinese and Korean and what they call it? Does the mid-
autumn day also has it's official name? hehe~

Actually, for me, there is nothing special for the coming festival. In
China, or at least in my hometown, it's only a harmonious get-together
with families, having a feast and talking about what's going on. But
this year, I'd like to make it a different one here in Korean with
some of my Chinese friends. Because you know, I have just had my home
moved to a new place. It's a dwelling house of two storeys and I am
living on the upper storey which has a large roof-deck. So I am
planning to have a barbecue party there on the chuseok day. Since
everyone is going to have a three-day holiday, I will go to a large
super market with my friends tomorrw after class to see what we need
to hold such a party and then I will defenitely have a sound sleep.
Oh, I have nearly forgot that I have to give my house a good cleanout
for the festival gathering, cause I'm a perfectionist~:)

Dear Ben, how will you spend your chuseok holiday here? Will you have
some fun with your students or just spend it yourself?

Wishing you a good holiday!

Finally Chuseok holidays come around tomorrow.
I've really waited this holidays even if it is short days compare with
last Chuseok holidays.
But actually I have nothing special plans this holidays.

If my grandmother or grandfather are still living somewhere,
maybe my family and near relatives gather together and spend a time
making Songpyon or playing Gostop something like that. But they are
dead long time ago unfortunately,
so I don't remain any special memories with my relatives in holidays.

Anyway... I'll meet my friends instead of visiting hometown.
I was born and grew up in Daejon so most friends are living here
either.
But some of freinds graduate school and move to other city for work.
So I couln't meet them frequently.
Therefor kind of this holiday is really good time to meet friends who
long time no see.
And my older brother would be get down from Seoul than our family go
out to eat one of day.

It's my Chuseok holiday plans.
I hope you have a good holiday. See you next Tuesday!

It have been more than 2 years that I have not spent holidays and my
birthdays with my family.
that's why this holiday is really special for me.
I used to stay in U.S for last 2 years. actually I came back in korea
last February.
so, I really missed spending time with my family.

first of all, for this Chuseok, probably I will deep clean my room
first. which I haven't done for months.
and then I will gain few kilograms because of holiday supper. lol.

most of all, I am really excited to see my relatives. I should catch
up with them I want to know what they have been through.
I really miss them.
these are my plan so far.

Sugary Song-Pyun sounds good to me...But how will I know if it's
really good? Maybe I should try some?..Hmmmm. EXTRA POINTS for food!!!
Just kidding of course. But, I'm not sure if I could deal with having

never heard of that superstition before. I love Korean superstitions!

So now I know who to come to when I need money... :) Sorry to hear
you'll be away from family on the holidays. Believe me, I know what
that's like :( But money talks, right!?

My plans? Well, today is Saturday and I'm trying to catch up on all of
my studies and lesson plans. And then I'll get together with some good
friends and eat Song-Pyun and other Korean treats...and possibly have
a drink or four :)

Izard,

It's really interesting to read about what "Chuseok" is to you, since
being Chinese, you have a different perspective. I hope I don't step
on any toes by saying this but as I know, Chuseok originally came from
China, right? I'm glad you brought up "moon cakes" because one of the
Korean professors I know at PaiChai gave me a moon cake last week and
it was quite tasty. :)

I suppose to answer your question about what this holiday means to me?
Well, we would just call it a harvest festival in English. Since we
don't actually have an official "harvest festival" holiday, the
closest thing to it would have to be Thanksgiving, which I'm sure
you've heard of. Thanksgiving takes place every 3rd Thursday of
November, so just as the date of Chuseok changes each year, so too
does the date of our Thanksgiving.

2nd story bbq, eh? Sounds like a plan to me! As for me, I've been
invited to a close friend's house for a Chuseok party. I'm looking
forward to it! However you spend the holiday, just make sure and stay
safe and have fun.

P.S. Izard, the emails you are receiving from google are basically
meaningless. You can disregard them. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Months of no cleaning??? Uhm...and I thought I was bad :) Just
kidding. That sounds like a good plan to me. Clean and eat.
Actually, I often feel the same way about cleaning when I get a lot of
time to myself. Of course, I cleaned my room last year so I don't
need to yet! :P I'm sure it'll be wonderful to catch up with the
family and share all of your stories from abroad. I forget, where
were you again? Atlanta, right? I just read that Atlanta was ranked as
the number one U.S. city for singles! Now I know why you were there!

Chuseok is one of the biggest holiday in Korea.
It's called Chuseok or Hangawi.
I like Chuseok. The reason why I like Chuseok is I can meet many
people at that time.
In Chuseok I will make Songpyeon and many kinds of fried foods.
Always women in my family make some food, but currently I'm into
cooking.
When we make Songpyeon, we use the first grain in this year.
We put Songpyeon into bean, sesame or chestnut.
And songpyeon is not fried but steamed.
It is good for healthy and It is a kind of rice cake.
Also, In Chuseok we will see very big full moon, and make a wish
something to Moon.
To prepare for making food and ancestor-memorial service is too hard.
But I think Chuseok is a kind of festival to everyone in my family.
so I will just enjoy the festival with my family.

P.S I wish you have a good holiday.^^

Chuseok is one of the most important holiday in Korea. In other words
Hangawi.
Every year, many people go hometown in Chuseok. So that caused huge
traffic jam. And this year, most people will be moved to their
hometown too.

most people will go north to south and go city to countryside.
But my family will move to revers. we'll go seoul.
This is the opposite of most of the people. So I'll be free from
traffic jam a little.

And I'll meet relatives in seoul.
Specifically I expect, I will see the two newborn babys. They are my
cousin's babys.

Last of Chuseok's holiday, I will meet my friends. there were away
from me for a long time.

Dear Ben:

The Mid-autumn Festival is one of the three major traditional
festivals celebrated by Chinese people. The Mid-autumn festival
actually began as the Thanksgiving celebration, honoring the Soil God
and the Crop God, this is also a time for family reunions. But I also
can't enjoy it with my family. but I have many friends in Korea,so we
went to the restaurant to ate the delicious korea food
together.after that we went to the Noraebang to sung the song. one of
the friend brought the moon cakes from China ,it's so unexpected for
us.when I ate the moon cake I feel I stay with my family.

When the Mid-autumn Festival is near, many moon cakes are displayed
for people to buy, People send the prensts to their friends and
relatives, such as moon cake, fruit, wine and so on . in that day, the
families have a dinner together, after the feast, they will go outside
to enjoy sight of the moon. It is believed that the moon is the
brightest on that day.and the poets wrote many poems to express
themselves. there are many fairy tales about the Mid-autumn festival
in China.
I will graduate in next year,so I hope I can have a special Mid-autumn
with my family next year.

Sincerely yours

Hi. Ben!
Firstly, I want to say I made the main paragraphs last week, but I was
so busy, because I have to prepare the holiday. I am sorry about
uploading lately.
-
I will help my mother at that time.
My father is the eldest brother among my grand parent’s children. That
is why my uncle and aunt always come to my home every big holiday,
because my grand parents had pass the way long times ago.
I reckon I have to make variety kind of pancake for ceremony of the
Chuseok. My mother runs restaurants and it is high season to it, so my
aunts are going to work for it. It is going to happen until dinnertime
of the day before.
Then the day before the Chuseok our family and relatives always drink
the alcohol together. I enjoy this time because we can talk each other
freely, also it is always going funny time for everyone. I really
expect it, because I could not take a place from the last Chuseok
holiday. Just I sent some bottle of alcohol for Chuseok eve party.
I will stay at home and help my mummy for welcome to guests who
visiting my home, also we have to visit some relatives’ home to say
hello. Always I am happy to meet them.
-
Then what I did is almost same with the plan, but actually, I could
not visit relatives’ home, because so many guests visited my home so I
had to stay at home as long as I can. I was so happy to welcome them.
In addition, the alcohol party at the Chuseok eve was quite funny
especially the youngest uncle did make us feel so funny. We almost got
tears in our eyes because of his jokes. The day after, it was the
Chuseok. We did some ceremony for our ancestors, then ate together did
some board game which is called ‘Go-Stop’. We putted 100wons for each
one score then I won many times so I earn 12000wons from the game.
That is why I had to buy a fried chicken. I spent 14000wons for it.
Finally, I have spent more 2000wons than what I got from the game.
However, I could enjoy that.
This Chuseok was quite enjoyable. I really expect next new-year day!

This holiday is celebrated the most by Korean together with New year
day
Confucianism deeply rooted on Korean culture whether we like it or
not.
This is the time people give thanks to what they believe for what they
gained this year.
They believe their dead forefathers are able to make something good
for their children.
This is why people officiate a certain ritual to the ghosts in the
early morning of Chuseok
But in my case, we will have worship service instead of a traditional
ritual called charye.
Because my family believe it's God who gave us what we have right now.

But there are things I very much enjoy in Chuseok.
When it's around, people are busy to buy gifts not only for parents
but also brothers and sisters.
Living scattered away, they all miss each others.
I love to see people chattering, laughing, eating together and
exchanging gifts at home.

This chuseok is very short comparing with the usual.
I will paln out with my family how we could enjoy chuseok to the
fullest.
Above all various food will be needed. To accomodate relatives coming,
cleaning is also needed.
it will not be hard working because i am so happy just thinking of
their faces.

October 3.
is calles as "Gae Cheon jul" in Korean and it is the foudation day in
korea. But for me in this time, it will be just a holiday. Because I
will help my university travel group member, I will not have enoug
time in this time. We have the biggest event in my travel group in
October 4th. It is the event in honor of the foundation. Many people
who graduated the school will come to the event and enjoy it with
students in the university. So this event will be meaningful for us.
We will meet the people after a long time
and freshman will meet them first time.To conduct the event
successfully, we will conduct a rehearsal in October 3th.
In thses day most of the fresh man don't want to enjoy the university
group as a result the number of the memeber also decline and in my
opinion it could be last. So i will do my best at the rehearsal as
well as the event although i am a senior.
I will check the place and facilities to operate properly. And i will
give advice to my members from my prior experience.
