I have Windows 10. I had to uninstall Bitdefender Free because it wasn't allowing me to update Windows for a major update, even with protection off. I now want to re-install Bitdefender Free. It won't. I tried the instructions below that have been written three times here in this Free support forum, they also don't work. I also emailed support, they told me to come back here. I'm writing this out just to say that I did, so that support will escalate this and reach out to me to help me remove the Free version completely so that I can re-install it.

Then I removed my device from Bitdefender Central, deleted my Bitdefender account, tried Bitdefender uninstaller in safe mode, turning off Windows Security/Defender protection, the instructions at -reinstall-bitdefender#latest, using Privazer, and was able to get the installer to load.

I uninstalled Bitdefender's free antivirus today through windows, then reinstalled through the installer on the website. After completion, the antivirus isn't showing in my system tray, in my task manager processes, and I can't seem to open the program anywhere. It ran just fine before uninstalling. What can I do?

Kindly drop an email to bitdefender support at bi...@bitdefender.com & explain your issue in brief stating the solutions you have done till now. Maybe this may require some attention from development team.

I don't see a lot of discussion about BD but I see a lot of good reviews online and their client seems to be pretty minimal on using system resources. Seems like there is a good way to deploy this from their web interface but was wondering if people have been able to deploy packages within JAMF?

We're also using it for our fleet of Macbooks. It's ok, the Cloud console takes a bit of time to get accustomed to. Currently have an odd problem of some computers unmanaged by BitDefender's Cloud Console. BitDefender Support examined logs of affected computers and stated the PKG file needs to be in the same directory as installer.xml.

@franton Can you share more details with your project in packages. I was able to create a package, but the GUI said there was a error and I'm afraid that JAMF will not like that. The software seems to have installed find though.

I was having issues with the original command shown in the instructions on the Bitdefender site and JAMF support had me modify it to the above. Note that I changed the location of the installer file as well.

We have switched from McAfee to Bitdefender at our site. The overall feedback from users has been positive however our developers have been less than enthusiastic. The reason for this is that we didn't get our whitelist correct on rollout for Antimalware settings which caused longer compile times when using Xcode.

@kerickson Yeah I put the installer command in the "Execute Command" section. It needs that to actually install the package as root once it downloads the bitdefender package from Jamf. I also noticed that you can't copy and paste it because of something with the text encoding used on their website; the dashes aren't actual dashes and the command will fail. So just type the command yourself in the necessary field and it should work. It's been working like a charm for me in High Sierra. Now Mojave security just messed up everything again smh. For my computers on Mojave I have to go to each machine and enable Full Disk control manually for my modules to work. Hope this helps!

From that post - Yes, there are TCC/PPPC profiles that still have to be created to prevent admins/users from manually allowing full disk access. Wish it or examples were supplied by Bitdefender. I guess I have to figure this out this week.

This might be a little late, but if anyone is still interested, here is a script I wrote that downloads the latest pkg from your GravityZone appliance and installs it. First download the DMG package from your server and copy the content of the included XML manually.

I would also recommend once you have finished tweaking the script, package it using Packages or Composer as a postintall script and sign it, to avoid issues with Mojave. Make sure to allow Full Disk Access using PPPC in Jamf Pro.

@DFree I used the PPPC-Utility ( -Utility) to drag and drop the applicable Bitdefender files (/Library/Bitdefender/AVP/BDLDaemon and /Library/Bitdefender/AVP/EndpointSecurityforMac.app) for Full Disk Access (SystemPolicyAllFiles) to create the configuration profile. In addition to adding the KEXT it's completely silent. Also set the script to remove /Applications/Bitdefender directory (don't need anyone to see the uninstall). Pretty easy!

I also took your suggestion to add to the script to delete the /Applications/Bitdefender folder too. It just contains an alias to the real uninstaller that lives in a folder in the same /Library/Bitdefender/AVP path.

I discovered from browsing the Bitdefender website that the version of Antivirus for Mac provided through armor.netgear.com is not the latest version so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it hoping to get the current version. It's still the same older version but now I am unable to reinstall Bitdefender VPN. When I click on the Install button for the VPN in the Antivirus for Mac main window nothing happens. Nothing downloads or installs and there are no error messages. The install button for the VPN is completely unresponsive. If I download the VPN directly from Bitdefender I can't use it because it requires a Bitdefender account, it doesn't accept my Netgear Armor account. It's really quite frustrating.

Same problem here too. Just installed the Armor-Bitdefender (thru NETGEAR Acct) on my phones - VPN included and working, but not the same experience when downloaded to our MacBook Pro (running OS Monterey 12.4). The install VPN button is inop when I click to install. Everything else seems to be working.

The weird thing is that it worked previously but doesn't now. I don't know what changed but I'm wondering if it's because the version of Antivirus for Mac downloaded through Netgear Armor is too old. The Netgear Armor version is 8.3.0.30 while the current version directly from Bitdefender is 9.0.4.4. It's hard to figure why Netgear is still providing such an old version rather than the current version.

I've been trying to deal with this issue for weeks now, jumping between Netgear support and Bitdefender. Incredible really how poor the service is. I too was trying to force a newer version of Antivirus to install through my netgear armor account. But once I deleted, I couldn't reinstall VPN.

It's working as intended. But it won't install? The VPN is built into the Orbi so you need to deal with Netgear. But I'm not using router level VPN service - just the client that i"m actually paying for. Oh and did I mention it did work, and is still working on another mac I have that I didn't uninstall.

Probably the worst customer support between netgear and bitdefender I've experience in the tech space. I presume it has to do with the most recent upgrade to MacOS 12.4 and a security feature that has broken part of the install function?

One person from Bitdefender told me the same thing, that since the Netgear router has a VPN the Bitdefender VPN won't install on Macs by design because they don't need it. I pointed out to them that the VPN in the router is a VPN server, not a VPN client. It has no relevance to the Bitdefender VPN. I also said that I have a paid premium VPN subscription, so telling me it won't install by design is completely unacceptable. I got a response back saying they are still investing the problem and will get back to me.

Trying to manage the Bitdefender products distributed through Netgear Armor is a nightmare. Netgear refers me to Bitdefender for support and Bitdefender seems to have no idea what Netgear is doing with them. The versions of Antivirus for Mac and Bitdefender VPN from Netgear are really old. There's no excuse for that.

I upgraded Antivirus for Mac by going to my Bitdefender Central account, selected My Devices, Add Device, and got the installation file from there. It installed the Bitdefender VPN automatically when it installed Antivirus for Mac. The problem I have now is that the Bitdefender VPN is running as the free version even though my Bitdefender account shows that I have a valid premium subscription. I have a support request in to them for that problem. Bitdefender and Netgear seem to be completely disconnected regarding the distribution and support of Bitdefender products through Netgear Armor. The Bitdefender products for Mac that are distributed through Netgear Armor are inexcusably old.

I asked Bit Defender support to transfer my VPN registration from Netgear to my Bitdefender Account and they agreed to do so. Then I downloaded the current Anti-Virus for Mac directly from Bitdefender and it installed the VPN and everything is working now. The problem is the files provided by Netgear. If you can download and install them from Bitdefender they work.

I plan to keep Netgear Armor on my Orbi because it's working. The Bitdefender files provided through Netgear Armor are useless, however, because they're too old, so they have no real value. I'm going to continue to maintain Anti-Virus for Mac and the VPN through my Bitdefender account and not through Netgear.
