If so my douchie friend from across the pond, you are a shill and you drive to my mothers house every 2 days a reset her unit so she can watch movies. I bought it for her because it was supposed to be simple and I relied on the WD name.
However, yesterday afternoon while I was at work my wife called and told me that the Instant Queue was no longer available. I told her to use the Wii instead and it worked fine. I performed the reset procedure I found here and got it working again.
im having this issue as well now. i wanted to know if everyone here has blu-ray added to their netflix accounts? i just added blu-ray and now im having this issue. looking forward to the firmware update. i have no other complaints except the long startup times when the wdtv starts up. its much longer than the normal wdtv live.
another thing for those of you who are havng probelms reaching the deactivate option within wdtv. make sure you start pushing the arrow sequence once the netflix window opens up and starts to load up the queue. u should see the circular progress indicator when you push the buttons. if it reaches the queue error screen you were too slow.
I recently purchased an Xbox and I must say, considering that have yet to acquired a sports game, that I am very impressed. I got the Xbox 360 pro (with the 60gb hard drive) and this allowed me to take full advantage of the recent updates for the New Xbox Experience (NXE).
There is a metric ton of videos, demos, pictures, community games, themes and online goodness that really extend the entertainment experience of the Xbox. The interface is really intuitive and looks great in 1080p.
Netflix Instant Watch is a really significant addition and adds a really solid value, if you are in fact a Netflix subscriber. The only problem with Netflix Instant Watch is that there is a really limited movie list and it can take quite a while to find a decent movie for your Instant Queue. The HD movies streamed consistently without interruption and the picture quality was pristine.
The other problem is that you cannot add movies to Instant Queue directly from the Xbox, you have to go online via a PC, but the instant queue will update almost immediately. There was an announcement of a Netflix app for Windows Mobile so this should relieve that bottleneck (or maybe I could create a Media Center app).
The only real unresolved disappointment was the poor performance of Windows Media Center. While it only took a few minutes to connect to my home PC, once I got it up and running the controls were really slow (I mean in the order of 10-20 seconds per click). My network is running fine, it handles high def streaming with ease. So right now am I assuming there is some contention between the various apps that can share data from my Vista PC (Zune, Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center).
OK, we ditched netflix when they went up on the price. Maybe we should look into again for the streaming only, which is mostly what we used it for. I am just exasperated with the LACK of choices on cable. We have ditched that in the past (we have the very basic we can get), but when we do we end up paying more for just phone and internet alone than getting the bundle which includes basic cable (I did call and have some stations completely blocked which helped a lot).
tristan, thanks for the tip on prefs. I just spent a little while rating some stuff as it is quiet hour here. I also added about 50 shows/movies to our queue. And I downloaded the mobile app. to put on my iPhone. That could come in very handy.
Yes, you can use it anywhere with wifi BUT each account only allows so many 6 devices to be approved at once and only 2 streaming simultaneously. All you have to do is go in your account to handle that stuff.
When my husband and I spent 10 days in the NICU with Mason in January we were able to watch Netflix on the laptop we had brought and the kids could watch Netflix back at home on the tv with grandma if they wanted to.
pinkchopsticks, I hear ya on the library fines. Oops! Ours charges $1 per DAY that DVDs are late. That adds up fast! I always got confused b/c DVDs are only 7-day rental while books and audiobooks are 21 days. So yeah, no DVDs from library for us though we get a lot of audiobooks there.
The fees to use Netflix have been a source of great controversy among current customers, since the company did away with a popular plan that offered $9.99/month for unlimited online movies plus one DVD out. Now, any plan that combines DVDs and streaming will cost a minimum of $15.98/month. A lot of customers balked at the change and subsequently canceled their subscription, which sent a strong message to management. Some folks felt that they would rather do without the service and walked. For those with the same sentiments, there may be other alternatives you can consider, such as Blockbuster On Demand, Hulu, iTunes, Amazon Prime Instant Video & Sony Entertainment Network. Which service you decide to use should be based on your viewing habits, need for flexibility and convenience, service costs and the type of devices you want to use for your entertainment needs. Some of these services have a smaller selection of shows, or may impose time limits on your viewing, as tradeoffs for a cheaper rate.
Netflix is a great service that you can run from an awesome website with a lot of cool features and tools to help you get the most out of this form of entertainment. For my particular needs, Netflix is a good value. The all-you-can-watch benefits and flexible features work for anyone who is looking for unlimited indoor entertainment for a song.
I get my movies from my local library and can keep them for a week. They have new releases like Slumdog Millionaire and Marley and me. I just log on to their website and place a reserve. The only downside is the wait to actually get the dvd.
Use blockbuster video, you can exchange your videos for any other one in store or online. In addition to ordering online and watching online. You figure one month is half of what you would pay to see it in the theater so why not:) Great blog though. I will continue to check back for more useful tips!
With all of the Blu-ray players that are coming down in price and the ability to access Netflix with a lot of Blu-ray players, a lot of people will have access to the Netfix movie database pretty much on demand. I personally love the convenience of Netflix but i still enjoy going to the video store now and then and browse the movies section because sometimes you will spot a classic movie that you really want to watch that you otherwise might have forgotten about.
I would NEVER rent from Netflix. They protect identity thieves. Someone stole my identity and was ordering movies from Netflix. Netflix was honoring the stolen credit card and allowing this person to keep using my card over and over again. AND, they REFUSED to reveal the identity of the thief. They told me that by law, they had to protect the identity of the criminal. Since when should the criminal be protected while the victim continues to be victimized by the criminal?? A company that allows someone with a stolen credit card to keep using the card should be put out of business!
For movie buffs (my own term is movie addicts), the monthly subscription is really much cheaper than going and watching it at movie houses; plus, you can watch and enjoy your movies in the comfort of your home.
I read I could play movies from my instant queue on my iPhone4, but it just goes in circles, and a movie never plays. What gives? I am a Netflix member and can sign on without problem. But pressing a play button goes nowhere. Would be nice wher a larger device is inconvenient (like a treadmill).
I would try deleting the Netflix app from your iPhone, then re-downloading it. I just tried playing something from my instant queue on my iPhone 4 and it worked as advertised, so your app could be corrupted.
For the last year and a half I've enjoyed watching Netflix movies in Windows 7 Media Center. Within the last few days I've encountered a problem where the play button no longer shows up reliably. I can open my instant queue, select a movie or episode, get the information, but not play it. If I browse around my queue I may eventually get a movie that has a play button. After watching the movie, however, the play button may disappear.
This is a problem from Microsoft, calling Netflix technical support will get you punted to Microsoft technical support as they created the plugin for Windows Media Center. New real information can be obtained from contact technical support, however.
As per @Rachel's comment, you can still hit CTRL+SHIFT+P to play videos. Likewise, if you're using a IR remote control you can hit the "Play" button on the remote and it will place regardless of whether or not the play button is visible.
I too would like to see a true Queue option in Emby. It would be useful to be able to occasionally browse through a large Movie or TV library and QUEUE up items of interest for quick access. Favorites isn't appropriate, since if it is in my library it is likely a favorite. I see Favorites working for kids that want to watch the same few items over and over. Playlists really seem designed for Music. I don't really want a Playlist of Movies or TV Series that are designed to play one after the other.
Actually, I would be pleased if the FAVORITES section/tabs in Emby apps were able to be re-named to QUEUE. It actually works the way I would expect a queue, without having to select a big heart icon and having items displayed as favorites when what they really are is a queue of library items of interest for quick access.
I love playlists, however they are very inconsistently implemented in the different apps. Unlike Netflix, you can't add to the playlists using most apps, you need to use a web browser interface, like in iOS, so not on any TV apps.
