Hi All,

I had an idea.

Mike Clinton told me that the bike shops in Durango have dry erase boards that list all the mtn bike trails and their state of ridability(?).
I thought that we could join forces and offer the same free service in Pagosa.

At the trails council meeting, the importance of staying off of wet trail as the most important way to maintain the integrity of trails was stressed.  This is something that we all know.

Paul Blackman said that generally trails were simply closed until a given month b/c of the assumption of wet trail.  However, during dry winter and springs such as this one, I wonder if certain trails might be able to be open early if we did proper recon.

The conundrum stated at the Trail Council meeting was that so many of us are chomping at the bit to get out on the trails, that inevitably some one will ride or run on trail that is still wet and ruin it for the rest of us.

So, I thought that if we could put together a simple volunteer system for doing early season trail recon, that we could provide the biking and running community with up-to-date info on what trails are available for early season use.

I thought that the wheel club and the run club could each take a handful of trails and pledge volunteer recon missions.  We could then post the data on our websites and on dry erase boards that we donate to both bike shops.  I think that there should be two or more people per trail recon mission as two opinions are always better than one.

This would also be a great tool to spread awareness to new runners and bikers about trail etiquette.

So, let me know what you all think.
Thanks!
Annie

So we keep the horse people off the trails in summer during & after the rains. Most of the trails I have found are potholed by hoof prints, runners make such slight impact on the earth, but I agree!

I could be the clearing house of trail status information on www.PagosaTrails.net and through the Pagosa Trails Facebook page.

Hi all,

I think that there is not the interest at this time to pursue this matter further.

Thank you for your consideration!
