Since 2 update of canary version :
Google Chrome 16.0.899.0 (Official Build 103668) canary

I have not exactly the same problem but is a Background Page problem too !

Confirming same problem here, occurs when the extension is starting up.

If I disable and reenable the extension the error occurs again.

16.0.899.0 dev on Windows XP.

If I attempt to use Page Speed, it never detects when the target page has
finished loading and is thus unusable...
