I wanted to follow up with that email by sending out a special flyer describing the excellent PAESTA/GSA workshop opportunity that is available from March 18-21 in Pittsburgh, PA:
2017 GSA Joint Section Meeting

Be sure to check the K-12 Weekend link to the right of the info page:
Early, discounted registration for k-12 teacher $65 now, $85 later) is available, but only through February 13, so act fast!
Also if you do register, I would like to recommend and excellent workshop activity from Karen Rose Cercone of IUP:

Streams as Classrooms: Impacts of Mine Discharge, Stormwater Runoff and Hydraulic Fracturing Fluids
Guides from the Montour Run Watershed Association will show us how this polluted stream near the Pittsburgh International Airport was cleaned up using new environmental methods. Pictures and data from this visit can be used in the classroom to teach earth science, chemistry and biology topics. There is no additional fee for this field activity. There is no additional fee for the workshop, but space is limited, so AFTER registering for the GSA K-12, please send your name to Karen Rose to ensure your spot. She can be reached at (kcercone) Send her an email with your name and contact info (cell phone preferred) for the field workshop listed above.
Remember that you need to register for the GSA conference to take part. PAESTA hopes to see you there! Please spread the word to your Earth/Space Science colleagues.
