Karadaiyar Nonbu AKA Sathyavan Savithri Vratham Mar 13th Friday

There is a tradition to do this vratham and wear manajal charadu by Women in southern India for the long life of their spouse and to receive all the blessings (Sowbhagya) of 

Goddess kamakshi.

Savithri is one of the courageous woman who intelligently (choose sweet, pious & humble words) conversed(argued)  with Lord Yama and got 

rebirth of her spouse, his kingdom, eyesight for his parents and children etc. This story was narrated by Sage Markandeya, when asked by Yuthistra-Dharma Puthra ( when they were living in the forest ), can there be anyone who can match the devotion of Draupathi,

Some other states celebrate this on different days.

doraṁ gṛhṇāmi subhage sahāridram dharāmyaham |

bharthu: āyuś siddhyarthaṁ suprītā bhava sarvadā ||

दोरं गृह्णामि सुभगे सहारिद्रम् धराम्यहम् |

भर्थु: आयुश् सिद्ध्यर्थं सुप्रीता भव सर्वदा ||

தோ³ரம்ʼ க்³ருʼஹ்ணாமி ஸுபகே³ ஸஹாரித்³ரம் தராம்யஹம் |

பர்து²: ஆயுஸ்² ஸித்³த்யர்த²ம்ʼ ஸுப்ரீதா பவ ஸர்வதா³

The rebirth of of Sathyvan happened at the Meena Sanakaranthi.

This year meena Sanakranthi is at 1:39 am Saturday Early Morning in Chicago time. 

Since it is after midnight and the charadu to be worn in ( in Kumba /Maasi month) before that time and looking at the Panchang,

the good time starts from 9:30PM to 12 Midnight.  Also you can choose to do this at 5:30 to 6:55 but this may not be close to sanakranthi time.

Devi Pooja devotees: You may read Kamakshi ashtothram if considered acceptable. 

On this occassion, my namaskarams to all women, (like Savitri) who show determination, strength, courage, sacrifice, choice of sweet words, love and friendship.
