Dear Friend:
Priya, a young wife in our community is struggling with complete renal failure. Both her kidneys have stopped working since a few months back as a result of a very rare auto-immune disorder. Mohit, her husband, used to volunteer in the Mandir kitchen in the past. They just got married in 2021, and both all alone here with both of their families in India.
She has endured months of plasma exchanges to counter this Goodpasture disease and now dialysis 3 times a week. The wait for a donor is very long here. Her own family has tried to get a visa to come here but were rejected twice, even after securing an appointment on emergency basis. The family members are willing to donate and therefore, they are planning to take her to India for the transplant. This has its own issues as they have to bear the full cost of the treatment in India as their insurance here doesn't cover any treatment outside the country and of course, she has no insurance there in India. The family is pooling whatever resources they can, but the couple is looking for help from the community.
