Sowhen I play music on my iPhone, I later attach it to my Mac for charing and syncing. However, if I play 10 songs on a given day, it does not update the number of plays or the date and time the song was last played. Is there something I need to do on my phone, my Mac, or both so that the number of plays and last played both get updated after every period I play songs on my iPhone.

Just updated to iOS 17.2. I am still having this problem. I run and listen to music on my iPhone and/or watch, but in November it stopped updating my mac with play counts and dates. My iPhone and watch does pass along star ratings, and I can add/remove songs to playlists, but it still does not update my mac play counts and dates. Frustrating.

If I add a song or favorite a song (or playlist) on my iPhone, it doesn't update on my other Apple products like my Apple Tv's or iPads. I spent hours the other week favouriting music on my iPad only to find out it didn't synchronize across all devices. I had this issue with 17.1, so I updated to 17.2 (on all my devices). Then I added a bunch of songs on my Iphone, wanted to show my wife the new music on my Apple TV, only to see my music was last updated days ago.

I tested it yesterday after updating IOS and MACOS and I can state that it is NOT fixed. I played two tunes from my library on my iPhone and those two tunes on my Mac showed last play times in the distant past.

As of 12/20/23 after a recent OS update Music is still not syncing across my devices. Changes to Playlist titles change in real time but the songs don't update. Not to my iMac, iPad or iPhone. GRRRRRR! For me one of the most important features of belonging to Music is to have all my devices synced so the number of plays and last played date are the same. I can't quite understand why Apple does not resolve this.

I've got playlists on my iMac which update according to play count. For example, I'm currently on one called 'Under 3,' a list that has all the songs with play counts of 2 or less. It's so I go through all my music.

It's 'based' on my iMac and that is currently down to 22 songs. However, on iPhone, it's still at a couple of thousand, despite me playing Music daily from there. It hasn't updated since the old Queen died. On iPad, it's something else entirely.

I'm signed in with exactly the same Apple ID (it's the only one linked to Apple Music), all the sync boxes are checked all over and I've updated the Apple Music library from iMac, millions of times. I've signed out of my iMusic account and back in, to no avail. It's been going on (or not going on!), for many months, if not longer, so it's not an ios17 issue I'm guessing. However, what it IS, is very, very annoying.

I have not heard anything yet. It does recognize when I play podcasts, but when playing songs on my iPhone, it is currently not updating on the Mac (Sonoma 14.1) when a song was last played or how many times I have played it.

Come on, Apple. This is a widely-documented bug -- see Reddit, for example. It is a core component of Apple Music functionality. I have multiple smart playlists tied to play count. Obviously, they have been non-functional for weeks. Please make this fix.

At the moment, itunes music doesn't seem to recognise that I'm using it on multiple devices. In the past, if I tried to play music on my iphone (for instance) while music was already playing on another device, I would get a warning message and music would stop playing on one of the devices.

However, this morning I tried playing music simultaneously on four devices (iMac, iphone, ipod touch and apple music on a PC) and had no messages and music kept playing on all devices at the same time.

Furthermore, If I add a new album on one of my devices (all four), it appears on all my devices (all four), so apple ID is presumably fine. And if I manually update the music library on my Mac or PC (file/library/update icloud music library) the libraries update properly on my phone and ipod (and MAC/PC).

It just seems to be the play counts that don't update properly to icloud from my iphone or ipod. Up to installing iOS 17, the play counts updated automatically at least once a day, usually after the first play on iphone/ipod. So far, neither the plays from iphone or ipod have synced for two days.

One thing I did note this morning while looking at icloud settings on my phone, was that it asked me to agree to new terms and conditions for icloud. Again, no evidence yet that this has helped solve the play count issue.

This is happening again. It was fine a couple of weeks ago. Songs played on my iPhone whilst driving don't get their play count updated on my home PC. I've spent a few days scrolling through a lot of online sites trying to find a solution but none are working. I've tried restarting both devices, syncing, Windows and IOS updates, the check box for "Home Sharing Computers and Devices Updates My Play Count" is checked, everything is the same as it's always been but it just stopped. There doesn't seem to be an Apple iTunes site to download a new version from.

Same here. On another thread I read that this should be sorted with the next update. I'm not sure if they're phasing out the 'last played' and 'number of plays' functions but that would be a shame as they're features I enjoy. To others it may seem pointless and geeky but to me it's part of the joy of listening to music. When music was more 'manual' I always used to wonder what I'd listened to most. Now I can monitor that but..not anymore.

Some stuff does update and sync (like playlists and 'favourites'). This whole problem seemed to start with the recent update which changed 'loves' to 'favourites' - ironically something that I doubt many people were asking for. It appears that the time stamp meta data is no longer updating. I also wasted loads of time trying to fix it but I've now given up and am hoping for a fix in the next update.

I've been having the same issue for about a month, since updating to iOS17. Plays from iphone SE do not update icloud music plays (so plays do not sync with itunes on PC). But added music, deletes and favourites on my phone do get reflected in itunes on PC. Further, plays on itunes on PC and my ipod touch (which hasn't had a software update), are updated on my iphone SE.

Looking through the discussions, it does seem that many people have the same issue and that "Apple" reportedly know about it and are looking into it. I'm not sure if that is true, but the latest update to iOS 17.1.2 a couple of days ago has not solved the problem.

I've tried all sorts of things to try to sort it out at my end, including deleting and reinstalling the music app on my phone, signing in and out of apple music and reinstalling itunes on my PC (from the microsoft website), but nothing has helped. I gave up a while ago as I believe it is a bug with the iOS 17 update that only Apple can solve.

Interestingly, today I notice that the "Replay" feature has been revamped. Previously, as I'm sure you know, this used to show a weekly summary of the running tally of most played songs, artists, albums - listing the top five in each category, before taking you to your top 100 played songs for the year so far. Now it shows the top 15 for each of the categories, including the running tally of plays.

I think so, but I'm not 100% sure about that. I've barely used my phone for music since the play counts stopped working properly, aside for playing one song every day or so to see if it had started to work again. So the number of back-plays would have been small.

I have also been having the same issue. This feature has been a favourite of mine for many years, from my ipods to my phone. I updated to a new iPhone at the same time as ios17 came out and thought it was because I moved to a newer iPhone. I have been getting more disheartened with this feature not working and actually started thinking about looking for a different app for listening to my music. Having read this thread, I was unaware that 17.2 was released, so I am currently updating my phone as I type. I will update when and let you know if this fixes the count problem for me as it appears to have done for others. Fingers crossed.

The problem is that Apple Music on PC/Mac isn't receiving the full list of updates to the play counts. But, online you can see your play history, and that appears to be accurate. So there's a bug somewhere.

This is a nightmare, I have an iphone 11 pro, the storage was almost full (256gb), apps did not open, so I restarted it. it then got stuck on apple logo. hard reset did not help, so I followed Apple guide, connected it to tunes to restore mode.

It said explicitly that if I choose "update" data will not be harmed. I did it and it prompted me to download iOS 15.x.It downloaded 7GB of the new iOS, saying "itunes is downloading a software update and will install it", but then it proceeded straight into saying "itunes is preparing to restore the software on this phone".

I didn't have any choice, and I thought maybe it just means restoring the software and not the phone. But when it finised after 15 min, all the iPhone was reset! 3U tools showed capacity of 8GB, and the last backup I have is 2.5 years old!

I was on itunes earlier and went to install the latest update for my iphone 4. In the middle of the the battery on my pc died and it shut down. Now on the iphone there is a symbol to reconnect it to itunes. I have that done, itunes doesn't seem to recognise the iphone. What can I do?

I'm in itunes trying to add this new album to my ipod (touch, 5th gen, iOS 7.0.4), and it says that it is 'updating files' (preparing to update) on my ipod. It is taking forever. Why? It's like it's stuck. It is not progressing. I don't want to update files, I do not need to update files.

(ALSO: I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but it's probably best if I add this piece of info. My mum has said she's had trouble with connecting usb's to this computer in the past. But my ipod seems to be connected fine? iTunes knows my device is connected, and my ipod has the syncing icon up, and it's charging. The cable itself should be fine, because I bought this one about month ago)
