Thanks John,

I did search before posting but did not find anything useful. One or two of our designs can have 100+ component differences, usually no fits. It would be so much easier to be able to reconfigure the schematic before rerunning a BOM report and placement script than trying to catch every component manually.

I have not used the variant manager and always do this manually, like you. I'm only dealing with two or three variations on a design, so that is fairly easy to manage manually. It is fairly easy to set up so the variations are tracked within the schematic to minimize the post processing.

This topic was discussed a while back on the forum, so I suggest you start by searching to see if that content is still posted (it gets deleted after six months).

Subject: Varient Manager

We often need to manage part builds and have up to now edited placement and partslists by hand then the following couple of weeks shaking out the typos etc. A colleague mentioned a software package called Varient Manager. Has anyone had experiences with this package and is it the way to go?. We are currently running PADS 2007 sp3.
TIA
Gary

Hi Gary
I have for many years asked for a variant manager to PADS Logic, but always get the answer that I just can switch to DxDesigner.

I'll strongly recommend a program called PowerAccessCIS from the Finish PADS Dealer.
We are using it all the time.
It can handle variants directly in PADS Logic , creating either variant tables or variant schematics.
It can also produce BOMs'.
Also the variant information can be forwarded to PADS Layout "Assembly Variants"

See http://www.designsystems.fi/Products/PADSUtilities/pa.html
