But, AFAIK, even in demo mode, you can still use all of the features of the
newer version, and then export the design into an ASCII file using a simple
script. Then you can reload it into an earlier version that your license
file allows, and do your normal DRC and output functions.
Paul
The entire script consists of few lines:
======================================================================================
Sub Main
Dim TestFileName As String
TestFileName = Left$(Application.ActiveDocument,
Len(Application.ActiveDocument)-4) & ".asc"
message = "Saving project " & Application.ActiveDocument & " as " &
TestFileName
MsgBox message
Document.ExportASCII(TestFileName)
End Sub

Though I %100 agree, everyone should get what ever version they paid for
with all significant bugs fixed (like Cadence does with Allegro) without
having to spend any more money. But Mentor corporate doesn't really care
what we think.
If you read the license agreement (I believe this part is in the license
file it self) it says that you have, if I remember right, 30 days to reject
the terms of the agreement, and they will refund your money. After that
time period, you agree to basically accept what you got. If you reject the
agreement under their terms (which I did when they changed the licensing
"scheme" from 30 year to 15 months), you'll probably have to fight with them
to get your money back.

Austin

Or just go to SupportNet:

(at least I think that's the right place).

What is "online licensing"? I'm still using a dongle...and certainly wouldn't want to use "online licensing" if it means what I think it does. All this "phoning home" some software does these days is just asking for problems.

There is a shortcut called "Install License" to a batch file. Maybe that will do the trick for you.
The shortcut points here:
C:\MentorGraphics\2007.2PADS\SDD_HOME\pads\win32\javasetup.exe
I went through this awhile back and they told me to paste the new file into the appropriate places in the old license file. I tried several combinations but nothing worked. One of the other guys finally did the install so I don't know exactly what he did.

Actually this link is easier. Just go to Current Authcodes, it will ask
for your site number or Site ID. I think it processes them automagically
now Not more than 30 minutes.
Austin,
That doesn't mean we ping you, although the support sales people would.

That text file is your license. Support should be able to walk you
through how to install it properly, it's not hard to do.
Or just go to SupportNet:

Graphics and no one yet has been able to simply tell me how to get that
information into my computer. Open PADS first? Find some license
directory within PADS??? I did find a file which is totally blank.
so.....copy-paste something into there???

I hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving!

What was meant by "online licensing"? Simply the generation of the license
file? If so, that's great, but the comment was in the context of a
dongle...which would have nothing to do with getting your license file over
the internet...you could do that with a dongle or with a floating license.

Austin
