BookshelfRenewableYesStackableYes (64) ToolBlast resistance1.5Hardness1.5LuminousNo TransparentNoFlammableYes (30)Catches fire from lavaYesBookshelves are blocks that improve enchantments applied with an enchanting table when placed around one, up to a maximum of fifteen bookshelves, at the expense of level requirement.
Strongholds may contain up to two libraries, each of which may be single-level or have an upper balcony. These feature some bookshelves arranged in pillars, and more bookshelves arranged in pillars in the walls. Single-level libraries contain 161 bookshelves, while libraries with balconies contain 233.
Bookshelves can be broken fairly easily by hand, but can be broken faster by using an axe. In either case, they drop 3 books when broken, allowing the reconstruction of the bookshelf with the addition of six wood planks. When broken by an item that is enchanted with Silk Touch, a bookshelf drops itself.
If an enchanting table is placed near a bookshelf, glyph particles fly from the bookshelf toward the enchanting table. Having bookshelves in the proper position near the table allows the table to apply higher-level enchantments.
Chiseled bookshelves can be destroyed with any tool, but an axe mines it the fastest. When broken, all contained books are dropped as items. The block itself drops only when broken using a tool enchanted with Silk Touch.[1]
Chiseled bookshelves can hold up to six books, books and quills, written books, enchanted books, and/or knowledge books. There is no GUI; books are instead added into the bookshelf by using on a slot with a book. Doing so will place a book in that slot. Using on an occupied slot will remove the book from that slot.
Hoppers and minecart with hoppers can insert and remove books from the bookshelf. As with any other container, items are taken from the first slot that has an item that can fit in the hopper and are inserted into the first empty slot. Droppers behave similarly when inserting books into the bookshelf.
When a hopper that is not already 100% full fails to remove a book from a non-empty bookshelf because there is no room for the book in the hopper's inventory, that is still counted as an "interaction" with the slot. Thus, a hopper that cannot remove any of the books will effectively set the last-interacted slot to the last non-empty slot in the bookshelf.[2]
I added a few (five) mods (all the correct version) to a pre-existing modpack on Technic Launcher. Now whenever it loads it comes with an error I don't understand. "bookshelf : any" could not be found.
The Bookcase holds up to 16 books and shows visually where the books sits in the inventory. Also works with enchantment tables. The books are counted and 8 books count as 1 vanila bookshelf. So a full bookcase counts as 2 vanilla bookshelves.
Player can place books directly in the Bookcase by right clicking with an accepted book. Right clicking the Bookcase without an accepted book OR if the Bookcase is full will open the GUI. Sneak clicking with an empty hand will pull a book off the Bookcase. Books will add/subtract from the slot the player is aiming at.
The bookcase can also emit a redstone signal when the item Redstone: Volume 1 is placed in the inventory. The slot the book is placed in determines the strength of the redstone output signal. The first slot does not emit any redstone. The second slot emits a strength of 1, the third slot emits a strength of 2 and so on up to the last slot which emits a full redstone strength of 15.
In Minecraft, a chiseled bookshelf is a new item that was introduced in Minecraft 1.20. It is more classic, decorative-looking bookcase that is filled with brown books, rather than the more colorful red, blue, and yellow books found in the regular bookshelf. You can stack chiseled bookshelves next to each other or on top of one another to create your own library.
When crafting with wood planks, you can use any kind of wood planks, such as oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, bamboo, crimson, warped or cherry planks. You can also use any kind of wooden slabs, such as oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, bamboo, crimson, or warped slabs. In our example, we are using oak planks and oak slabs.
When making a chiseled bookshelf, it is important that the wood planks and wooden slabs are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 3 wood planks. In the second row, there should be 3 wooden slabs. In the third row, there should be 3 wood planks. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a chiseled bookshelf.
I have a mending villager, and when I went to trade with them, I was unable to select the mending trade. The villager has two trades unlocked: mending first, then a bookshelf trade. I selected the trade for the mending book, yet it only gave me the trade for the bookshelf. I tried selecting the bookshelf trade, thinking maybe that might give me the mending book in an odd switching of trades situation, but no, that also gave the emeralds for a bookshelf trade. I tried this on another villager, which also had mending and a bookshelf trade as the only 2 trades unlocked. The same result occurred. My farmers and weaponsmiths are working correctly, but it would seem my librarians aren't. I have not tried any other enchanted book trades on them. Perhaps if I level them up it will allow me to do the trade? This is an odd glitch.
Bookshelves are quite easy to make, and to find, in any Minecraft world, and they are really important when it comes to enchanting. They are also really cute to use as decorative blocks around any base or house, as they have a really nice texture to them. If you want to learn how to make these incredibly useful blocks called bookshelves, proceed to read the required materials and steps necessary.
To make a bookshelf, open the crafting area made up of the 3x3 grid. Place 3 wood planks, of any kind, in the first row and 3 more wood planks in the last row, then fill up the second row with books. Now that a bookshelf has been made, simply click the bookshelf and drag it into your inventory.
Next you must find your sugar cane and leather to make the books you require. Sugar cane can be found around the world near any kind of water source in almost every biome. It stands tall, at 1-4 blocks high, and can be grown on sand or grass.
Now you may place your bookshelf wherever you want! Be careful though, when you break a bookshelf (unless you use the silk touch enchantment) it breaks into 3 books, meaning you need to surround them with wood once again.
One of the easiest ways to acquire bookshelves is to find them in libraries in villages; players can break these bookshelves and get the books they need, and then all they need to collect is the wood.
Congratulations! You have now succeeded in making a bookshelf in Minecraft! Alongside being great decorative blocks, bookshelves can be used to power enchantment tables; surrounding an enchantment table with two layers of bookshelves will allow you to reach the top tier of enchantments: level 30. These top tier enchants can propel any player to new heights, making them incredibly overpowered and very difficult to kill.
If you break a bookshelf block by mining, it will normally just yield books, requiring you to craft them back into a bookshelf. If you have the silk touch enchantment on your pickaxe, breaking a bookshelf block will result in a bookshelf you can pick up and place wherever you want.
Bookshelves are generated in libraries, which are inside strongholds, within some buildings of villages, and in woodland mansions. A single bookshelf can be crafted by arranging six wooden planks and three books. Whenever a bookshelf is destroyed without Silk Touch, it always drop back 3 books. Bookshelves are very important for improving enchantment tables. When placed close to one, it will begin to send floating white symbols (Galactic Alphabet) to the book on the enchantment table. This grants a player a chance to receive better enchantments, although this is not guaranteed. To function, a bookshelf must be within a two-block distance of the enchanting table, with one empty space and no obstructions between (even a torch could disable it). The bookshelf will still be in proximity if stacked up to three blocks high. An enchanting table can connect to no more than 15 bookshelf blocks within range. Any additional bookshelves do not contribute to the enchanting effect. Bookshelves can also be used in crafting a lectern.
Bookshelves were added in the 0.26 patch of Survival Test, but they were not able to be naturally spawned until the 0.28 patch. They were left in obscurity, as they could not be crafted until Beta. Bookshelves and libraries were finally implemented in Beta 1.9 pre-release 3, as they could be used to receive higher enchantments on weapons and tools. As of Beta 1.9, destroying a bookshelf will drop three books. Bookshelves can be obtained through trading with librarian villagers as of 1.3.1.
