The MacBook is able to detect the USB at first, but once after I open the D-Link Connection Manger, it can no longer detect the USB Modem and a notification which says "No USB Modem Connected" pops up.
5. Run the firmware update on the Windows PC while the USB Dongle is plugged, Follow the prompts, it takes a little while, sometimes it seems like it is stuck but be patient. Once its done it will ask you to press any key to continue.
6. After the install, pull out the dongle and plug it back in, sometimes the device installation prompt will appear. If so, rerun the device installation again. Wait for all the drivers to install. If not open d-link connection manager on your windows PC and test if it is able to make a connection to the internet. If the test was successful go to #7 below.
Unfortunately even after installing new firmware according to instructions above my Dlink DWM 157 can not connect to the internet. Everything works on Windows PC. When I try connect on macbook I receive such message: "Network connection, the connection failed because you have not entered a telephone number".
I'd stuck at "no usb modem connected" message for 2 days, and unfortunately to me that my other pc has just been upgrade to Windows 10, which doesn't work with D-link 156. After getting the idea of upgrading firmware, I've tried few time and the computer saids: "no USB COM detected".
I'm able to access internet but when I type 192.168.1.1 in the browser address bar, I'm unable to get router access, the page just won't open and I'm not even reaching password screen whereas earlier I used to access for this same router.
Make sure you're connected directly. Some routers can be configured to not allow administration over Wi-Fi, or any other link not directly connected to the router. So, make sure your connection is via a cable run directly from your computer to the router with nothing else in between. Also, disable Wi-Fi on your computer to ensure that your machine is actually using the hard-line connection to reach the router.
Make sure you're using the right protocol. Some routers can be configured to only permit administration over HTTPS, and may not have an appropriate HTTP->HTTPS redirect in place. So, if -ip/ doesn't work, try -ip/.
Factory Reset If all else fails, just push the little red button and hold it for about 30 seconds. Bear in mind that this will of course erase any custom configuration you've done to the router, including administrator passwords and IP ranges.
I had this issue where 192.168.1.1 was directing me to the wrong router (the fios router that my wifi router was connected to). wasn't leading anywhere (nslookup showed that it didn't point to any IP address). I was online though, and I could connect to the router fine from other computers.
It turns out that my other computers were able to find the router via router.asus.com because they were having their DNS settings configured by the router. This one computer didn't work because I had set the DNS to 8.8.8.8.
This was my problem too and all of these useful solutions didn't help me... but I casually found that you have to remove all of devices connected to router, then you connect to router by one device only (by cable or any other ways)... and problem was solved.Hope be useful for you!
The Cat 5 network cable needs to be connected on Port 1 of the router and back too the computer for gateway access. The internet port on the router is only for the modem. Disable all WiFi adapters on your PC/laptop and do a reboot this will flush out your IP configuration and your BIOS this will allow a direct communication with the Ethernet card.
In this article, we are going to setup our D-Link router. Now we are not only focussing on connecting to the internet, but also on some other important settings. Think of securing your WiFi, using the right DNS servers to speed up your internet connection and creating a guest WiFi network.
Before we can connect our D-Link router to the internet we need to figure out how we can connect it. The D-Link router is a router and modem, so it can make the connection to your ISP itself, but we need to know how the internet is provided by your ISP.
The difference between a modem and a modem/router is that a modem only makes the connection to the internet. Where a router connects all the device together so you can print on your network printers, share files between computers and use the internet connection. Most consumer routers also provide WiFi and they have multiple ethernet ports (RJ45). A modem only has one ethernet port that you use to connect a router behind it.
We have done all the prerequisites, so we can now start with actually setting up the D-Link router. I assume your connected the router and put the internet connection in the WAN port and connected your computer with one of the LAN ports.
Our D-Link router is now connected to the internet, but we also want to set up our wireless network. By default, your router will have a wireless network that you can connect to. You will find these details on the bottom of the router.
But leaving things default is never a good idea, so we a going to change our wireless network name, pick a new password, optimize our wifi signal and disable the Wifi protected setup (because these are to easy to hack).
The D-Link router supports a guest wifi network. This way you can give your guests internet access without letting them on your private home network. The guest network is a separate Wifi network with its own wireless network name and password. Enabling it on a D-Link router is pretty easy.
During the internet connection setup, we skipped the DNS part. A DNS server is the dictionary of the internet. Almost everything we do with the internet requires a DNS server to translate a domain like amazon.com to an IP address. And because nearly everything you do requires a DNS server, selecting the fastest one will accelerate pretty much everything you do online. Your ISP also has a DNS server and those are in most of the case, not the fastest servers. So using another one can speed up your internet with more than 30% easily.
To speed up your internet connection we can also prioritize important network traffic. In a household your share your connection with all the members in your household. If somebody is watching Netflix while another is downloading the latest game on Steam you might notice that Netflix will need to buffer or lower the video quality. This happens because the download is consuming almost all the bandwidth that is available.
After you configured your router is it always a good habit to make a backup of the configuration. With a backup, you can easily restore your router if you have to reset the router or when it lost the configuration due to a power outage.
Something you should actually start with, but the most convenient way to update the firmware requires an internet connection. New firmware version contains bug fixes, security updates and may even have performance updates for your router. Before you update the firmware, always make a backup of the configuration.
What is the difference between those 5 holes? if I put the internet cable in the one which says internet, the internet does not work on my lap-top, so I tryed to put the internet cable in no. 4 and now it works. Why?
Kind regards
Jesper
Thanks, mate, this information was very helpful. Thanks for posting the article..keep posting articles. Being a newbie in d-link, I was finding it difficult to change the password. Thanks to you I can finally change the password.
I tried setting my DNS settings to two different adult blocking sites (ex. 208.67.222.222) and none of them work. This is very frustrating. I must be missing something because this works perfectly fine on my netgear router.
Digital technologies are set to shape African economies and unleash economic growth opportunities, including opening new markets for the United States and other partners, in the coming years. Within this context, the United States launched the Digital Transformation with Africa Initiative (DTA) in December 2022 to advance U.S.-Africa digital collaboration.1
While the DTA is a timely and promising initiative, its vast potential will go unrealized unless its important mission is translated into targeted action. The following three proposals would help translate the DTA from a powerful idea into transformative action.
In addition, the DTA should facilitate connections between representatives of African countries and the United States. In this regard, the Access Africa initiative by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) can organize a reverse trade mission between African and U.S. public and private sector representatives focused on fiber infrastructure and Digital Invest, a program that can provide financing options.14 Through such efforts to mobilize private finance and convene critical stakeholders, the DTA can advance efforts to extend backbone infrastructure to rural areas and help mitigate the urban-rural divide in countries that have a higher percentage of their populations (more than 70 percent) residing outside of urban areas, such as Kenya.15
The DTA can help address this gap in access to affordable devices in African countries. One way to do so is for the USTDA to fund feasibility studies on smartphone manufacturing that would enable African communities to effectively engage in the smartphone-manufacturing industry. These feasibility studies would provide better understanding of the economics of manufacturing affordable smartphones in the continent, and they should include lessons from past initiatives, such as Mara Phone, and provide recommendations that could invoke further action by the DTA and African actors. Already, the USTDA is undertaking various studies aimed at expanding digital access in Africa. In Kenya, for instance, the agency is undertaking a market access study for Nairobi-based internet service provider Poa Internet that would support the delivery of affordable, fixed wireless internet access across the continent, and in Malawi, there is a feasibility study to support the expansion of fixed wireless and fiber access networks.25
