The war for the fate of mankind blazes on. Though the outer defences have fallen, the walls of the Palace itself remain inviolate as Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian of Terra himself, uses every known stratagem and ploy to keep Horus' vast armies at bay. In Perturabo, the Traitor siegebreaker, Dorn faces an adversary worthy of his skill. A terrible, grinding attrition ensues. The crucial battle for the Lion's Gate spaceport is at the heart of this conflict. With it in their possession, the Traitors can land their most devastating weapons on Terran soil. So I'm looking for anyone's experience with the New Imperial Armour - Siege of Vraks. I already own the original trilogy, Imperial Armour Volumes Five, Six and Seven, and I am wondering if it is worth getting this newest rendition of The Siege of Vraks. The New book clocks in at 288 pages, while ONE of the old books average 220+ pages...SO I guess my real question is how well does the new Siege of Vraks boil down the previous 3 books? Should I sell of the old Trilogy and just pick up this new edition?

Starless Night and Streams of Silver are also science fiction novels from R. A. Salvatore with a great story to be narrated in both. You will be amazed with the grasping narration given in both by Victor Bevine and the way he captures his audience is literally mind blowing. Once you listen to these, then one, if not both would make as one of the favorite books that you have ever listened.

The following is a complete list of Audio Books (audio versions of printed media) and original Audio Dramas produced by the Black Library. Entries are split into Warhammer 40k and the Horus Heresy Series

Robin Hood and the Outlaws are on the run from a gang of mercenaries and are forced to take shelter in the ruins of a castle where soon they are besieged. Robin's more used to breaking into castles, not defending them. But he also knows this castle - he was apprentice to its lords many years ago. A great family brought to ruin by recent, cruel times... No one has dared set foot within these walls since then. Robin and the Outlaws know there's no such thing as ghosts. Don't they?

The books are published in several media by the Black Library, a Games Workshop division, with the first title released in April 2006. As of February 2023[update] the series consists of 62 published volumes; the concluding story, The End and the Death, will be released in three volumes, with the first released in February 2023.[1]

Shadows of Treachery is a compilation that collects five short stories previously published in limited editions, art books, or other formats, and also contains two new novellas.[34] Most of the stories involve the 7th or 8th Space Marine Legions, respectively the Loyalist "Imperial Fists" and Traitor "Night Lords", and their Primarchs Rogal Dorn and Konrad Curze. Other Legions and Primarchs are also featured, while one short story takes place on Mars and illuminates an aspect of the Traitor Mechanicum's conspiracy. One of the novellas is mainly about an all-out close-quarters space battle, between a Loyalist Retribution Fleet sent to punish Horus following the events of Isstvan III (Book 3) and the Traitor fleet that ambushes it; the other new novella deals with the aftermath of another naval engagement in space that cripples the Night Lords Legion. The narratives of all stories fill gaps in the series or add further details about the Heresy and its actors; they cover periods that range from several decades before the conflict to around the time frame of Book 18 (one short story is a prequel to that novel).[35]

Angel Exterminatus covers a Traitor operation in uncharted and dangerous galactic space, that may purportedly decide the war in favour of the rebels. The story provides further glimpses of disparate motivations and conflicting objectives among traitor factions as the Heresy campaign continues. It is taking place some time after the Dropsite Massacre (Book 5), shortly following the events described by two novellas (Books 20 and 22).[36] Featured are the 4th Legion of Space Marines, the "Iron Warriors", renowned siege masters of the Great Crusade, and their Primarch Perturabo. However the core plot is set in motion by Fulgrim and the Emperor's Children, who share the spotlight. The embittered Iron Warriors have aligned with Horus out of frustration with the ignominious and unheralded role assigned them by the Imperium; before the story begins, they lash out in unforgivable genocide. In the story, they are invited to the freelance operation (which is unknown to the Warmaster) by Fulgrim and his Legion, who have their own agenda. The operation's true goal is kept secret from Perturabo and his Space Marines, who come to realise that not all fellow rebels can be trusted. A side thread involves Fabius Bile, the chief medical officer of the Emperor's Children, and the Traitors' top geneticist; he is on a no-holds-barred quest to exceed the Emperor's genetic achievements.[37]

Early in its publishing history, the series became a sales success in its category. Horus Rising by Dan Abnett, the opening title, set the pace shortly after its release, topping Locus magazine's "Locus Bestsellers: Gaming-Related" list of August 2006; as of Book 22 (September 2012),[update] practically every title in the series had achieved the same or similar performance on this chart.[55][original research?] Horus Rising's January 2011 CD audiobook release also appeared in ranked sales lists: the (abridged) edition was number 15 in a related chart published by The Bookseller, covering 2011 UK sales up to September.[56]

The Black Library and Games Workshop have released novels, game rulebooks, and other products not branded or classified as Horus Heresy, yet directly relating to story arcs or events described in the series. An example is listed in the section below.

An audiobook is a recording that is primarily of the spoken word as opposed to music. While it is often based on a recording of commercially available printed material, this is not always the case. It was not intended to be descriptive of the word "book" but is rather a recorded spoken program in its own right and not necessarily an audio version of a book.

In 2021, Del Rey/Random House began to reprint older Star Wars novels under the "Essential Legends Collection" with new cover art, as many popular titles from the past were out of print, and becoming increasingly difficult to access. Along with the collection, they announced that the reprints would be accompanied by new, unabridged audiobooks. The vast majority of these had never received unabridged audio releases, as storage capacity of the day made such long audiobooks impractical.

Abridged audiobooks are intended to cover the majority of the main story, cutting only side-plots and minor characters and scenes, but it's just not the same. Abridged audiobooks tend to lose the heart and soul of the story, prioritizing the core events. You don't connect to the characters as much, the book just feels...empty.

The announcement regarding the new, unabridged recordings was met with much rejoice from Star Wars fans who rely on and/or prefer audiobooks for their reading. After decades, they'd finally be able to get the full story.

However, in November of 2022, it was revealed that the newest wave of Essential Legends Collection reprints would not have audiobook releases. There has not been much information from the publisher explaining why they have cut that part of the collection, despite constant requests from fans who depend on the audiobook format to consume this media.

This ableist decision by Del Rey is a huge blow to audiobook fans. With July being Disability Pride Month, now is the time for Del Rey/Random House to commit to resuming production on unabridged audiobooks for their backlog of Star Wars media.

Audiobooks are an essential tool for millions of readers around the world. Whether it be Blindness, Dyslexia, ADHD, learning disabilities, lack of access to proper education, or simply personal preference, the option of listening to a book opens the door to countless people who would otherwise not have access to media. Why should audiobook consumers get an inferior version of any books?

I was an avid reader in my childhood, already reading chapter books in pre-school, but as I reached my teenage years, I began to struggle to focus my attention on books. No longer could I simply sit down and read a book. I went from reading around five books a week to maybe five a year, and mostly only reading the books assigned to me in school.

Then, I discovered audiobooks. There was a new Stephen King book that had recently released, 11/22/63, a book about a time traveler trying to prevent the assassination of JFK. I really wanted to read it, but I just could not focus. My dad, an avid King fan, listened to audiobooks on his daily commute, so I decided to try listening to the book instead. It was then that I found that audiobooks would allow me to read and do other things at the same time. I was hooked.
