Leprechaun Appearance & Physical Characteristics



Usually short, but sometimes very tall, and of essentially uniform appearance, these little sprites are easily recognisable 
by their physical characteristics, clothing, and acoutrements.

Leprechauns USUALLY have:

  • A red/orange beard & hair
  • Waistcoat (could be black, plaid/tartain, or gold)
  • Single-breasted coat
  • Emerald green overall clothing colours
  • Emerald green top hat (with black band & big silver buckle)


Leprechauns FREQUENTLY have
:

  • No mustache
  • Frock coat with tails
  • Knickerbocker pants (tartan/plaid)
  • Over-the-calf stockings (plain or striped)
  • Emerald green Top Hat (with black band & silver buckle)
  • Black patent-leather shoes (with silver buckle), or curly-toed pointed elf shoes.
  • Pipe (corn-cob and/or long stemmed)

Leprechauns SOMETIMES have:

  • Red/orange mustache
  • Wire-rimmed spectacles
  • flat caubeen
  • Bright red colour variations (instead of Emerald Green)


Leprechaun Accouterments:

  • Hammer
  • Shoe or shoes that are under repair
  • Needle & thread
  • Leather apron
  • Shamrocks
  • Crock of Gold
  • Sack of dirty potatoes
  • Shillelagh 
  • Drinking mug - they never know when a drink might come their way...
