The ODBC database standard is one such standard that requires linking to drivers, which in return link to data drivers. Windows provides both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers and the two worlds are completely separate. Just to give one example.

If you have to work with older Access database, or interface to older MS Office packages in general, 32-bit is still the way to go. The same goes for many applications in e.g. the medical space. Some of these industries are often slow when it comes to upgrading.

Reminder that Python 3.12 still has some life left in it, so users who need to run 32-bit applications on Windows would have until 2028 before support expires, 3 years after Windows 10 generally becomes end-of-life

I wish we had a universal windows installer instead of the six different windows download options. Someone willing to do windows specific work would have to figure out how to (re)arrange our release process to make such a thing happen. (Is that even a common windows concept?)

Desktop Reminder is a personal organizer which allows users to add, remove and edit tasks needing to be done on a daily basis. The user interface of the program is basic and includes a list of added tasks a long with large icons in the top portion. You can add new tasks, modify them or delete them quickly from the top bar. Once a task has been completed, marking it as done is also quick and simple. For individual tasks, you can have Desktop Reminder set priority, deadline and a description which are entered into the list. Tasks can be scheduled to be repeated at certain intervals. Once a deadline approaches, Desktop Reminded will display a notification so that important deadlines are not missed. The program's basic interface and functionality are both a drawback and an advantage -- making it easy-to-use but also giving users less in terms of features.Overall, Desktop Reminder is a basic and useful task manager and personal organizer perfect for users looking for something basic and simple.Features of Desktop Reminder

@gbha just a reminder that Windows 7 (even with SP1) does not have updates available for it. There are a great many many security bugs for this OS. It is STRONGLY recommended to never connect a machine with Windows 7 to the internet as it is both easily fingerprinted and at the core the system relies on outdated components which communicate over the internet with known security exploits.

As a reminder, Windows 8.1 will reach the end of support on January 10, 2023. After this date, this product will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, technical support, or online technical content updates. If devices do not meet the technical requirements to run a more current release of Windows, Microsoft recommends replacing the device with one that supports Windows 11. Please go here for detailed information.

I used to sync my Palm Centro on a 32-bit Vista machine running Palm Desktop 6.2. Since some handy features (like birthday reminders in the calendar) disappeared in that version, after setting up 32-bit Windows 10 I decided to try using Palm Desktop 4.2, the version that came with my Centro. I'm happy to report that I installed the software, did a HotSync and everything went just fine [WELL, I THOUGHT IT DID--SEE BELOW]. I now have all of my stuff both on the phone and on the Windows 10 machine, complete with birthday reminders in the calendar.

fascinating reading your post diamante. I have a palm tx connected permanently to my siemens fujitsu, intel(r) core(tm) 2 duo cpu e4600 @ 2.4 ghz 2gb ram 32-bit o/s, x64 processor, (bought in 2004) windows 10 pro(upgraded from vista, then windows 7, then to windows 10). I synced it half an hour ago and then looked for the hotsync log which like you isn't there, it is of course on the palm tx, but it would be ice to have it available from palm desktop. Incidentally when I sync it doesn't sync with my google calendar which I have synced on my galaxy s5 and galaxy tab A. looks like the weather here in beoley is brightening up. john watson

As a lawyer, I have to go into my Sent items and add reminders to follow up on a significant fraction of emails I send. Obviously, this is inefficient, but worse, I occasionally forget and something doesn't get followed up on in a timely manner.

In a slightly less ideal world, a reminder would automatically get set on every email I send, which I would have to manually opt-out of. This method also has the significant drawback of not allowing me to select the reminder time.

You can set a default reminder for all messages that you flag for yourself or for recipients. To do this, go to File > Options > Tasks and select the Default reminder check box. Then, choose the time interval that you want for the reminder.

You can also set a custom reminder for each message that you send. To do this, click on the Follow Up button in the Tags group on the Home tab. Then, click on Add Reminder and choose the date and time that you want for the reminder.

The only way to communicate between 32-bit and 64-bit dlls is to write a COM server that manages the communication (read: wrap EITHER the applications calls OR the 64-bit driver responses) in between.

One thing that came back to bite me: When I first wrote this COM server (yes, I too had to bear many sleepless nights before I came to know of this trick) I only built the 32-bit version of the (auto-generated) proxy/stub dll. Another bout of sleepless nights ensued before I came to know of the solution: Build the proxy/stub dll for both 32-bit and 64-bit. The 32-bit side deals with the 32-bit side (in your case the application) and the 64-bit with the 64-bit side (the driver). COM manages how the differnt versions of the proxy/stub talk to each other. And oh, do get the server registered on your system. Easy, right?

I think the whole point of a driver is to abstract away the actually workings of the hardware and present a common interface to the software. In this case, the PCIe driver needs to be 64-bit so that it can act as a go-between for Windows and the hardware, but I would think that a 32-bit application could then access the device without any troubles at all.

What's meant by that incompatibility you read about is that 32 and 64-bit assemblies can't be part of the same application - an application has to target either one or the other, though 32-bit application will generally run fine on Windows x64 using WoW64, which just acts as a translator.

For getting a notification on incoming emails (using BlinkStick Client) you can choose between a GMAIL, IMAP oder POP3 account. Maybe IMAP will work with your Exchange account.
For any other function as a connection to the Outlook API for email or appointment reminder or a Jabber connection you need to develop your own application or a BlinkStick Client plugin.

Even software compiled for 64-bit still defaults to 32-bit preferred variables. There may be some minor benefit from forcing the OS to go purely 32-bit but the difference in performance is going to be so so minor.

The x32 ABI is an application binary interface (ABI) and one of the interfaces of the Linux kernel. It allows programs to take advantage of the benefits of x86-64 instruction set (larger number of CPU registers, better floating-point performance, faster position-independent code, shared libraries, function parameters passed via registers, faster syscall instruction) while using 32-bit pointers and thus avoiding the overhead of 64-bit pointers. Though the x32 ABI limits the program to a virtual ...
