Long Lake is in the vicinity of Mount Uniacke / East Uniacke in Hants County (East Hants).
An enormous tract of land bordering the lake is currently owned by Wagner Forest Management Ltd.
Currently there is "no" access to the lake via public roads; only ATV trails and forrestry roads which are now gated and locked.

Cottage Country has proposed to buy land bordering the lake to develop a cottage condominium. Because of the nature of a condominium development no public lake access is required to be provided by the developer. Certain planning act changes are required to be made by the Municipality prior to approval being granted for this development.

A representative of Wagner has publically stated that if the Cottage Country development is turned down Wagner will begin development of over 400 single family dwellings on (or near) the lake. According to Wagner the land is already zoned R1 and therefore no further approval is required from the Municipality. As I understand it, this development will provide public access to the lake.

A number of local residents are organizing and are investigating ways to oppose these developments.

The purpose of this email is to sollicit support and or ideas to oppose development around one of Nova Scotia's last wilderness lakes.
Please contact me if you can offer support or recommendations.

Hi Paul, all others;
   the topic of access to and potential future development of the shoreline of Long Lake in Hants County is highly relevant and totally appropriate for PaddleNovaScotia....

I don't think it's inappropriate at all.  It's relevant to all of us who like to get out and paddle in different places.

Just to let you folks know ,I had an opportunity to spend a day “Paddling” with some Wagner folks and they actually seemed like a good bunch of people ,,they actually

Cleaned up an area of coastline and brought back a kayak load of garbage from around the islands..

I’ve always had concerns about developers raping and pilaging ,but My first impression

of the Wagner bunch was a good one.,,

The head dude for Nova Scotia has done some whitewater kayaking and who wouldn’t trust a whitewater kayaker!!

Lets hope if long lake  area is developed it’s done better then the Armoyans have done….
