Today I had a chance to visit a brand-new neighbourhood park in suburban Timberlea, just west of Halifax. The HRM-owned park finally provides parking and public access to Fraser Lake, on a well-known paddling route from Coxs Lake to Shad Bay and next to the Blue Mountain – Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area. In fact, the islands within Fraser Lake are a part of the wilderness area, and the two biggest ones sport well-established campsites.

There hasn’t been really good public access to the lake for years.  The only disadvantage of the new site is that one has to carry one’s boat some 200 M between the parking lot and the lake. This wasn’t the case at the old Rockwood Hills Drive site at the lake’s outlet. So far there is no signage at the parking lot, and I don’t know the new park’s name.

That's great news! The old entrance was a decent carry as well so I don't mind.
