Masons Island Property:

The MICA Board of Directors is very pleased to announce that an agreement of purchase and sale has been signed by the Mahone Islands Conservation Association (MICA) and the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) for the partnership acquisition of significant property on Masons Island.

This property totaling approximately 13 acres in the middle of the island joins to the existing MODL property in the big cove on the eastern side and with several adjacent lots on the western side of the island.

The property will complement the northern end which was jointly acquired by MICA and MODL in 2008. It is the intention and desire of both MICA and MODL that the closing will occur by this summer. Upon closing, the entire very popular big cove on Masons will be conserved, protected and available for traditional public use.

If you would like to donate toward this exciting acquisition on Masons Island, or renew your membership, you may do so by cheque to MICA, PO Box 427, Mahone Bay, NS B0J 2E0, or online at www.mahoneislands.ns.ca through PayPal or CanadaHelps.org.

This property will then join Andrews, Backman, Covey, the northern end of Masons, Sacrifice and Shag Islands that MICA has jointly acquired in partnership since its beginnings over 10 years ago. This is in addition to the donation of Long, Dry, Centre and Snipe Islands.

MICA extends a sincere and hearty 'thank you' to all our members, our private supporters, our corporate supporters, our partners the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Province of Nova Scotia and our countless volunteers who have enabled the association to be so successful with these acquisitions. Together we are creating a legacy.

11th Annual MICA Gala Dinner and Auction:

We are also very excited to announce that the 11th Annual MICA Gala Dinner and Auction (GDA) has been set for November 1, 2013 at the Atlantica Hotel, Oak Island. The committee is working on making this year's event even more memorable. The wheels are in motion on our Corporate Sponsorship Committee who have set a goal of 50 Corporate Sponsors for the GDA. If you wish to enquire about becoming a corporate sponsor, please contact anyone on the committee.

Lunenburg Hardware a long time MICA supporter has facilitated the donation of the first auction item - a Napoleon Gourmet Grill valued at $2200 donated by Lunenburg Hardware, BMR and Napoleon Gourmet Grills. “Lunenburg Hardware, BMR and Napoleon Gourmet Grills are pleased to donate this BBQ
as an auction item at November's Gala. The fundraising and awareness work performed by the
volunteers of MICA to bring islands in Mahone Bay into the public domain for all to enjoy is
commendable. Together, communities accomplish great things! Congratulations on the
acquisition of the Masons Island property”…..

The MICA Gala Dinner and Auction is our major fundraiser. The overwhelming support for this event has been instrumental in allowing us to continue with our island acquisitions.

Sincere thank you,
MICA Board of Directors
