Image families with amazon-ebs

I've been using Google Cloud, but I have to build some AWS AMI's with the amazon-ebs builder now. I don't see the equivalent of using a image family in AWS. Is this possible? I want to rebuild images from the latest version of an AMI. Google Cloud makes this easy using image families.
