Packer with vshpere ? Do I have to have vsphere access

What should be the path of 

  "source_path": "/path/to/a/vm.vmx",




if I have the vm Inside the vsphere ? 

Can I call it from outside the vsphere ? 

Do I have to call packer within the vsphere so it can have access to the vm Path?

packer for vmware-iso with remote connection, aka vsphere, only starts from an ISO.

vmware-vmx is only availablefor vmware desktop (Workstation / Fusion)
