Hello Packer Community!

The Packer team is excited to announce the release of Packer v1.7.9. This release contains enhancements to the HCP Packer registry block, plugin updates, and some notable changes to the Packer documentation. For a complete list of changes please see the Packer CHANGELOG.

Notable Changes:

  • HCL2 variables and locals are now available for interpolation within a build block.

  • The arguments build_labels and bucket_labels have been added to the hcp_packer_registry block to allow for the storing of user generated metadata.

  • The Packer website now supports versioned documentation for Packer versions leading back to v1.5.x. See https://packer.io/docs

  • Version information for external plugins is now available on plugin documentation. See https://packer.io/plugins

Notable Bug Fixes:

  • Setting the provisioner timeout argument to an improperly formatted value will no longer cause Paker to crash.

  • CVE-2020-26160 and CVE-2021-44717 have been addressed.

Archived Plugins:

  • The following external provisioner plugins, which have been previously marked as unmaintained, have been archived: chef, converge, inspec, salt, puppet.

Please refer to the blog post Plans to Archive Unmaintained Provisioner Plugins for more information on what it means for a plugin to be archived.

As always, we want to hear from you if you have any issues or ideas.

Thanks,

The Packer team
