Monday Meeting: 6 essentials

Hey everyone,

I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving break. I am definitely ready for our kids to go back to school :P

I am looking forward to our meeting tomorrow (Dec 1st 2025).
The plan for the meeting is to go over the Cub Scout 6 essentials.

We plan to revisit square knot at the top of the meeting, go over the 6 essentials and then do a few games on having the cubs guess and remember the essentials.

This will be good timing since I put a hike at Henry Cowell on the calendar (Dec 14th) and that will be a good time to practice bringing them.

Additionally, I met with @Derek Anderson and @Matthew O'Bannon and we discussed trying to plan out 2026 since @Chris Hundemer will be stepping back since his son Logan is bridging! (Bonfire for the next meeting for him?!)

Things we discussed:
* Matt will focus on the older scouts (Bear/Webelos/AoL)

* Derek/Farid will focus on the younger scouts

* Prepare for pinewood derby by doing raingutter regatta in the stream in midtown

* We discussed potential camping ideas: Fremont pass (Observatory), Manresa, Morro Bay, Big Sur & Refugio State Beach

It would be great if other parents can help us organize camping for 2026!
I was hoping some parents could step up to help organize some camping + other pack meetings (I know @Adam Dell is reaching out to Trail Stewards).
Maybe @Michael Polito , @Katrina Slater ?

I have spoken a bunch (via e-mail) with Don, and understand that Isaac had just finished all of his AOL requirements this past weekend also. I am planning this week to go by the Scout Store and can pick up the AOL awards for Logan and Isaac, are there other awards for anyone else that I can pick up too? 

It would be great if the meeting on 12/15 could be a bonfire and we can honor Isaac and Logan and give them their badges.

The only hiccup is we can't then likely do the hike with pack 515 but that's okay with me. I want to celebrate Logan and Isaac.

Thanks Farid - this sounds like a great idea! Maybe plan for a 4:00 or 5:00 start time?

Also, it looks like the Scoutbook system has locked me out of the Pack, and I cannot update the last remaining awards for Isaac. Can you log in and mark him complete for the "Duty to God" (finished 11/23/2025) and the "Citizenship" (finished 12/1/2025) Adventures? This should complete his arrow of light requirements. I did make it to the Scout Store this week, and got their patches and pins. 

I can go back by the store next week if there are any belt loops or other awards needed for the other younger scouts?

I went into ScoutBook yesterday and saw that Isaac's last two items wern't marked as complete yet so I updated SB and now it says 100% complete.

Sometimes ScoutBook can be finicky but it's serves it's purpose weel.

Meeting at seabright -- I put it on the Google calendar. 

Bring whatever you'd like to enjoy your time at the beach. 

I'm planning to bring firewood, water and some s'mores to share. 

We're planning to get dinner afterwards, but you might like to grill dog.
