Hi all,

I appreciate everyone's flexibility about changing my emailing system so suddenly.  I am sending this message using our new google groups, so please let me know if there are any problems.

The AOL den will be meeting Tuesday  Sept 10th 7 PM at Lopez Elementary gym.

We plan to continue covering the requirements in the Scouting Adventure.  The first thing we will do is determine whether to break into 2 patrols or not.  Then we will elect patrol leader(s).  My plan is to do something a little more than just lecture, so hopefully there will be more engaging stuff than last time.

I know that Lopez 5th graders are headed to Eco Week next week, so they will be unable to attend.  If one of the scouts who won't be attending wants to be patrol leader (or assistant), please have them write a short speech (it could be as short as 1-2 sentences, just talk about why they want the job) and send it to me.  I will read it aloud and let them be part of the fun.  We are also planning to cycle through patrol leaders every two months so lots will have the opportunity.

On September 23 (monday) we are invited to attend the Troop 90 Camporee planning meeting and troop meeting from 7 - 8:30 at Our Savior Lutheran Church Whether you are attending the camporee or not, this is the meeting for that week.  Please make a determination if you will be going on the Camporee the following weekend before that time, so they can plan on numbers.

September 24 - no meeting as we will have met the day before.

September 27 - 29 Fall Camporee
The Troop is planning to feed us while we are there, but you still have to register for $5 on the event website.  More info is available here: https://longspeakbsa.org/bighorn/district-events/fall-camporee/

If you are planning to camp, a parent MUST Camp with each scout.  If you are going for the day, we need to have two adults attend as part of our group.  I am planning on camping.

Also Sept 28th - CSU is hosting the Engineering adventure day that they did last year.  I am pretty sure everyone did it last year, but if you aren't going on the Camporee, and want to go to this, it's available

Oct 2 and Oct 15.  The district hosts "Webelos to Scouts transition" at Harmony Presbyterian 7 - 9:30.  I don't know anything more about this that what I have written here. This is not required attendance, but it is encouraged that you attend one of these nights.  I think many troops will be there for you to meet and ask questions of, as well as talk generally about the differences between the two programs. https://longspeakbsa.org/bighorn/bh-advancement/webelos-to-scout-transition/

Oct 8th - Our next Den meeting...  Dave and I will be reorganizing after our activities above and determining what we will do for this meeting, but plan on Lopez gym.

Also at the end of October, Pack 193 typically goes to Haunted Weekend.  Hopefully we will have a confirmation of which of the last two weekends in October they will go soon, but if you aren't going to the camporee please consider attending this event so we can have everyone camp this fall.

Two other reminders.  I am trying to keep our den calendar up to date with all of these, so subscribe and you will know when the next thing is happening.

Also, I am asking for a small donation to cover the cost of renting the rooms this year.  As of now, I will be out about $160 to pay for us to meet.  It would help if each family kicked in ~$10 or so to help offset the cost of the space.  Thanks!

Let Dave or I know if you have any questions.

Thanks
Chuck

Troop 90 - Camporee planning and attendance

In lieu of our meeting scheduled for the 24th, we are going to go visit with Troop 90 on MONDAY Sept 23 at 7:00 PM.  This is the planning meeting for attending the Camporee that weekend.

If you all could reply to me and let me know who is planning to attend the Camporee and if you are planning to camp or just go for the day, that would help me know what sort of numbers we are looking at.  You also need to sign up at the district website https://longspeakbsa.org/bighorn/district-events/fall-camporee My understanding is that Troop 90 will be paying for our meals, so we need to know how many / who is going so we can keep track.

Since our meeting on Tuesday, I have heard from 2 more troops, so expect me to share more activities that our scouts can attend to visit troops over the next couple of months.

Regards
Chuck
