Hello Arrow Of Light Den,
I am going to be passing along two messages that I received this week from troops inviting us to join them. The first one, below, is from Troop 97 specifically inviting us to their Scout Showcase on November 11 from 6:45 to 8:15. Ethan and I went last year and Ethan had a lot of fun. Part of the requirements for Arrow of Light are to attend an outdoor campout or other activity with a troop. If you weren't able to make it to one of the camping events (Camporee or Haunted Weekend) this should be an outdoor activity that would fulfill that requirement.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
On another note, Dave and I were looking through our current status on requirements for the Arrow of Light Badge. By my count, we have several who are either fully completed or nearly completed their Arrow of Light requirements. For those in my Pack, I will be sending each of you a list of the remaining requirements, but I wanted to share a couple of items that are going to be covered as a den in future meetings.
For our next meeting, please plan on having Requirement 6e of "Building a Better World Adventure" completed to discuss as a group at the meeting.
Identify one energy problem in your community, and find out what has caused it.
Once we have done that requirement, there is only one remaining requirement in the Building a better world adventure
#5 Show that you are an active leader by planning an activity for your den without your den leader's help. Ask your den leader for approval first.
Please discuss with your scout how they can accomplish this. It is not required to lead an entire meeting; it can be a game, or pretty much any other activity.
Also, remaining to be completed is the final requirement of Scouting Adventure, to review knife safety. We will be doing this in a future meeting.
The Duty to God Adventure is one that should be completed at home with your family.
Every other requirement has been covered by at least one meeting. If you attended all of the meetings, you will have completed everything except the above. As I noted above, I will be sharing what your scout missed with you sometime in the coming days.
Have a great day!
Chuck
Hi Chuck,
Troop 97 is a large and exceptionally active troop, with a range of exciting weekend campouts, BSA summer camps in several states, and an unsurpassed High Adventure program as Scouts gain experience in the program. Troop 97 provides both a boys troop and a girls troop, currently both meeting on Monday nights. We’d like to invite Pack 116’s Webelos to visit us at any meeting or outing, and particularly our “Scout Showcase” meeting on Monday, November 11, 6:45 to 8:15 pm (our regular meetings are 7:00 to 8:15 pm).
If you can pass this on to any other of your Webelos leaders, that would be great! We’d also be happy to help with Webelos advancement if your leaders could use help from our Scouts (one goal of troop Scouting is leadership).
Upcoming dates for possible visits. We meet at St Luke’s Episcopal Church, 2000 S. Stover St in Fort Collins.
‘Regular’ Monday Meetings (7:00 to 8:15 pm)
- 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/28, 11/4, 12/2, 12/9, 12/16
- Also 11/25 tentative date for swim night at EPIC or Mulberry pool, to cover aquatic advancement requirements
Weekend (or day) Outings (join us for the weekend or just for the day Saturday)
- 10/12-13, Paul Bunyan weekend
- 11/9-10, cooking campout at BDSR
- 1/24-26, Chimney Park Lodge (intro to fun in the snow, with cooking & sleeping available in the lodge; we cook, you eat)
Troop 97 Scout Showcase
- 11/11 (Monday), 6:45 to 8:15 pm at St Luke’s—we’ll grill some hot dogs (late supper or second supper), maybe a dutch oven treat, Scout skills, demonstrate how troop-level Scouting functions, answer parent questions
Finally, I’ve attached a sheet with our answers to Scouting Magazine’s blog on “Questions to ask when selecting a Scout troop”.
We hope we can help your Webelos continue with the Adventure of Scouting,
Jeff
