Other Information:
Live bait is available or bring your own. Corn will be available to fish with, for the squeamish.
Fishing will be “Catch & Release”. Barbless hooks will be required. You can pinch down the barb on a standard hook with pliers.
Bring the following: closed-toe shoes, first aid kit, water bottle, sunscreen, hat, camp chair, fishing rod/tackle, & bait.
We will have loaner reels, rods, and tackle for those who do not have fishing gear.
Only (1) rod per scout will be allowed.
Youth and adults over 16 years old, that fish, will require a Georgia Freshwater Fishing Permit. Permits ARE NOT sold at the park.
CUB SCOUTS ONLY are eligible for size & limit prizes.
All Cub Scouts must be accompanied by an adult over 21.
Scouts must hook, reel in and land the fish unassisted. It then must be recorded and measured by Fishing Derby Judges in orange vests before being returned to the lake.
No pets will be allowed.
Fishing in boating launching areas is prohibited.
Properly dispose of line, tackle, bait cups and other litter.
Event will be held rain or shine. In the event of thunder, postponement or cancellation will be evaluated.
Staff blows whistle…..Stop, don’t move…… someone’s been hooked !
Fish must be caught from the bank.
No stringers please. Buckets with lake water will be provided to temporarily transport your catch to a Fishing Derby Staff member for recording.
Fish must be immediately returned to the lake unharmed after recording.
LUNCH IS NOT PROVIDED, BUT CONCESSIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE.
If there is a tie for most fish caught, the tie will go to the scout with the most total length.
Eye protection must be worn at all times. Prescription glasses or sunglasses are acceptable.
